ledders666 6
Hello, I am in the final stages of getting a .243 on my FAC. I will be using the rifle for deer stalking after completing my DSC1. What set ups would people recommend for this my budget is £700-800 for which I would like a rifle moderator and scope. ideally I would like a synthetic stock. This is what I have found so far http://www.dauntseyguns.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=HBAB243%2B Any suggestions would be great Thanks in advance josh Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Superb rifle mate, I should know I have got one, it will shoot near one hole groups with my homeloads, and half inch all day with federal 80gn factory stuff, Jap engineering is brilliant, they are a little heavy but unless you are a 9 stone weakling you will be fine, the trigger is not the best but ok, and 30 quid at a riflesmith will sort it, the only criticism of that package is the Nikko sterling scope, it will get you going but they are crap on a cf mate, see if they will upgrade you to a Nikon prostaff (brilliant) or a hawke endurance 30, something like that, for a bit more cash, you don't want a crap scope on a superbly accurate rifle like a Howa/Weatherby, but I would say a big yes you will not go wrong with one of these mate. ledders666 6
Good advice, thank you. I had wandered about the scope, you have confirmed. When I save up I shall enquire if they can upgrade the scope. Did is cost much to set up your homeloading kit? Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
I have the howa 1500 in the black synthetic stock with the fluted dark barrel, Atec moderator and a hawke sidewinder 30 scope (don't ask- long story). She works great but I reckon its worth getting the magazine conversion done. My trigger pull is standard and it suits me fine. Only knocked off a fox so far but at about 170 yards with factory ammo Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
No it did not cost a fortune to set up reloading, about £140 its like anything, you can spend a fortune on kit or a reasonable price, the reloading snobs will tell you to spend a fortune but you really don't need to. What do you need mate and how hard is it ? Looks a bit daunting tbh Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
I see there are some really nice Howa Laminates and stainless setups. Funny thing is you never see these advertised in the UK despite these being EU models: http://www.howarifles.eu/resources/HOWA.pdf Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Reloading is not the black art some make out it is, get a good manual, and look on youtube loads of tutorials on there, once you have grasped the basics it is pretty straight forward mate, basically you punch the old primer out, resise the case, trim it back to standard length, put a new primer in,fill with powder, and seat your bullet, in a nutshell. Cheers Not so much that but when you look at Howas adverts in Uk magazines they seem to advertise the synthetic 1500's. I've not seen any other models advertised although I admit I'm not a regular reader. Also don't Highland's Outdoor supply parts ie separate actions, stocks etc rather than complete Howa guns? GEOFF.223 83
I reload for my howa in .223 heavy barrrl black synthetic stock I have bedded the action using devcon steel putty I reload my own ammo and im getting 8mm 1 hole groups with 3 shots (yes only if I do my part) average groups are 14mm . So to cut a long story short a howa is a very well built rifle that will shoot as well as a £2000 rifle The trigger isn't great from factory but its adjustable and there are a few vids on the net on how to adjust safely Quote Link to post
