NickF 50
Well he teaches the police so I shall go along. I lost my last Lurcher on the way to the vets so lets see if it can help if nothing else with a degree of comfort whilst on the way ;-)
skycat 6,172
You're right there: first aid is what it says: something to keep the dog alive on the way to the vet. I got lucky once, not knowing what I was doing when a friend's dog crashed, winded herself and her heart stopped beating. I did some sort of cardiac massage without really knowing how to do it on dogs, and luckily her heart started up again OK.
beast 1,884
good idea, as has been said might just allow us to keep a dog alive long enough to get to the vet. i would go if i had £40....
sandymere 8,261
The idea of courses in first aid for dogs is pretty good but wouldn't it be a good idea to attend one for humans instead, most of the basics will apply and then you can deal with people as well. I've done a heimlich type manoeuvre on a dog with success but CPR ? once the heart has stopped pretty much nothing can restart it other than a defib machine. I'd agree with socks most of those need a vet asap and unless your updating every year or so it will all blur surprisingly quickly.
