Bang on Levs,he's done his biz now, what do people expect of the old timers, there's young 'uns that can't do one tenth of what these fellas did coming on and saying all sorts, fair play to the old timers who dug when the world was sort of 'right',we now know of course the world is not 'right'now, too much interference from the anti's and the media, shouldn't we all just help one another and move on,where are all the leading terriermen now and more to the point, all the leading terriermen in the past were different in their methods, their dogs and their locations,so from a higher viewpoint you could look down on the diversity of terrier workers and truly say 'each to their own',the 'golden age ' of terrier work has passed now as those terriermen are rapidly dissapearing, but THEY DID CONTRIBUTE to the modern terrierworld and that is something, who's doing anything notable now,the ONLY THING WE HAVE LEFT NOW IS STICKING TOGETHER and maybe a new 'golden age'may be feasible,it's certainly easier now

to do more in a shorter time in regards to improving breed standards and sharing digging opportunities,

because the internet has kept the game going as it has with other dubious sports, the internet has superseded

the weekly/monthly mags and information is exchanging at a far more exponential rate than the 'old timers' could have dreamed of,so we should all take advantage of it and 'see' more opportunities as the

visionary terriermen of the past did,

Higgins.

I know Eddie and I have done for a few years now he wouldn't fit in with the stuff that goes on now and he knows it, he hasn't the same interest in his dogs now as all he wants to do is fish, fish and more fishing. It doesn't mean he has nothing to offer and he has plenty of intresting tales, he's a character and a mate. He'll probably never dig to a dog again by his own admission he has people cueing up to take him out with offers of " I'll do the digging " etc; etc; but he isn't intrested if he can't do the whole job properly he won't do it at all!

The breeding and showing is mostly done by his wife and she seems to succeed well in that side of things so fair play to her.

Recently Eddie said to me in light of the ban " I saw the best days of digging in my time " whatever your views on the bloke I think he's spot on with that comment and he probably has seen the best days there were no such things as prosecutions and antis were few and far between.

He's a good bloke and he's done enough in my book to live his days out how he pleases.........

Superb reply Leveller..... :notworthy:

How refreshing to hear some loyalty from a hunting man towards one of his own kind.... :clapper:

And even more pertinent because you actualy KNOW the guy....

I personaly believe that there are far too many noted 'legends' and authorities in both the terrier world and the running dog fraternity that in reality do not deserve their famous status,..and the respect that invariably goes with it... This is more so when the sycophants get all worked up over some character that they have never even met...Fecking amazing....and so illogical...:no:

As for Eddie Chapman,....his chilling comment that he 'saw the best of the terrier work in his lifetime',...well,.I would have to agree.. Not because good lads /men,.are not still digging deep these days,..because wherever I wander throughout the UK ,..it is obvious that there are still some fine terrier men about,.but more so because in Eddie's position as a Hunt Terrier man,...and locally the stunts that he got up to are legendary :D ....and the fact of the matter was,...he could do what he liked,...and had a massive area of land in which to use the tykes....

Like yourself,..I like the wee man...

I often wonder,.when ALL the 'noted' names are gone,...WHO will replace them.... :hmm:

It will be interesting to see how things eventually play out..... :)

All the best to ALL crossbreeds,.cheers,.CHALKWARREN...
