Waz 4,293
The float rod I have is a 'shakespear sigma' glass fibre match rod, 13' rings a bell. Had it second hand from about the age of 12, and won a few junior matches with it. The fella who handed it down to me was a hardcore match man. Its well past it... So the time has come to get myself a new rod that me and my boy can share (when he progressed a bit). Just wondering if a multi tipped rod exists? different tip action, float casting and maybe swing top etc, anyone suggest a good place to look online? Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
Found myself in a similar position and ended up buying a John Wilson Avon, covers float fishing well and pretty good for light/medium feeder work, think it was about £70 and got to say Im really chuffed with it If your going to be chucking large feeders this is probably a bit lightweight, but its a cracking rod at any price .Re the Sigma 13ft Match rod ,Ive still got mine hear I know their not the lightest/slimmest of rods....but you cant half bend em plenty of backbone for tench/bream if your nerve holds... bwfc 164
I had the same problem when i took up match fishing on commercials last year.I got out my old mitchell match and my Abu match rod with all England match tip.One one particular match the float went under and i hooked into a zoo creature. It look me through 3 pegs to the left of me and i had no chance. After the match i bought a Fox Duo Lite Barbel rod which is 1.75tc and also has 3 interchangeable tips.its a superb rod for float fishing, tip work or specimen.it cost me around £120.00 but worth every penny. unfortunately due to illness ive had to pack the fishing in,so if you want to make a sensible offer for the rod i may sell!. https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/lite-multi-175lb-p-547636.html?gclid=CPq1gbTAr7kCFfLHtAodkXAAxg 3 Quote Link to post

bwfc 164
Its a superb rod and ive had carp to 15lb on method feeder, and ive also used it for general course fishing. Its just a great all round rod.Ive not used the 1.75tc section yet as the slim green woven blank has the backbone to haul specimen fish in using a 5 or 6 ounce tip section. After going back to match fishing after 30 years was a big wake up call, and im friendly with Ken Townley who Fox used to sponsor who put me onto the rod. i teamed the rod with a Shimano 10,000 xtea baitrunner loaded with 6lb prestons mono, which was a bit big but i certainly didnt want to go undergunned again. Ive since sold the reel since i realised im too knackered to carry all the gear, but the rod is still in the holdall in its green felt bag. 2 Quote Link to post

bwfc 164
To be honest i havent used anything under 6lb bs as the Prestons mono has a very thin diametre, and as i previously said i didnt want to go undergunned again. However i had no problems catching anything from a couple of ounce to mid doubles. mattyg 1,862
AlwAys been a fan of the jw/royobi Avon quiver, I still use a pretty old model but has enough grunt to turn a chub away from the naughty stuff on small rivers but can still register a a gudgeon for live live bait with the quiver top on..... Oh and also landed PB barbel (11lb) on a stick float of all things!!!! So if say its pretty all round. Cheers, Matt 1 Quote Link to post
