fireman 11,549
I've used just plain and simple non drip outdoor gloss and put it on with a roller but move the birds out for a few days when doing it mate, the wet paint will do them no good what so ever
lurchers 2,999
I used creosote off when I painted the avery but make sure you scrape the brush so it doesn't run down the wire.
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Just out of interest; The official ringers trap manual suggests we use Bituminous, black paint to 'cammo' our wire built traps with. I've duly bought a pot and, as the book says, it's a lot cheaper than 'normal' paint. However, I've never even opened it yet. Too busy with other things ~ like painting! And I hate painting! Anyone know if this stuff would be any good on an aviary? Cost of paint makes me wince. I expect Spartan could do with saving a few quid where ever he can.
fireman 11,549
The thing with bituminous paint on your traps is OP that you'd want to sort of hide them and looks wise aren't that important, where as we want a finish that also hides our wire but we need it to be drip free and on a neat finish and even a £5 tin of black gloss with cover a good amount of wire if a roller is used so not to bad a price to pay for seeing your birds so much better. Outlaw Pete 2,224
Mm. Fair comment, Fireman. Like I say, I haven't even opened this tin yet. I've no idea what's in there. And, yeppers, it'll hardly matter what it looks like as these are to be the most basic and 'rough and ready' traps. (Unlike my trap cage from Dean. That got treated like good furniture! Looks lovely for it too! ) Generally speaking though? I bloody hate paint!
wild rover 548
I took Firemans advice and used black gloss with a roller, did a great job.
