Kat 3
Hi, as I said ive a whippet X collie, 3yr old bitch. She was given to me as her previous owner found other things to occupy his time and the kennel space was wanted by the dad I've waited to find the faults but I cant find any Seems it was a genuine gift to me and ive had a several rabbits with her in the last couple of weeks. Last week she did something that ive not experienced before and I need to know whether its to be allowed and if its normal etc... She was hurtling across a stretch of moor and stopped on a sixpence and shoved her head down a rabbit hole She then started digging like a loony and biting the earth and grass around the hole ripping it away and digging for england until her shoulders were submerged.... she then pulled out a young rabbit and dropped it by my feet , went back and did it twice more then just layed down by me!! I just need to know if this is acceptable? it causes me no problem as the hawks had a take away for supper care of her! but should I let her dig them up? My other lurcher just grabs them, shakes them and stands still but this little girl retrieves them back to me live and sits in front like an obedience dog lol They're so different and im unsure about the digging bit & where im going with her any tips/ advise please? Couple of pics.. Quote Link to post
Kat 3
Thanks Johnny.. 40 views & 1 reply lol i'll go with your advise! I know the previous owner has several ferrets so its very likely thats correct.. am I right to allow it then? and will it have any adverse effect when I take her out at night? Quote Link to post
IanB 0
I wouldn't be too concerned Kat, obviously she knows they were close to the surface, but a lot of dogs mark warrens in different ways, if your out ferreting and she persists you will have problems, just try and restrain her from digging, gently does it, she will get the message... when the bunnies come.. Kat 3
Thanks Ian she will stop if I tell her, shes very obedient.. Thanks chalkwarren, why would sending her south help? Quote Link to post
higgins 75
if you don't use him for lamping shouldn't be a problem, also if this behaviour doesn't bother you then it's okay, natural for a dog to do that,if you want to use him with ferrets you'll have a marking dog, you know there's rabbits in there,it all depends what you would like to use him for, from what you said it looks like he has a good nose for finding, good hunting Kat, Higgins. Kat 3
Ok I do want to use her with a ferret.. so as long as I make her allow the ferret to get on with its job and then let her do hers all should be straightforward? Doubtful if i'd lamp with her, the other lurcher is a dab hand on that game I do appreciate this advice cheers fellas :thumbs-up: Just another pic of her.. Quote Link to post

witton 6
Well see it as a good thing, when u go ferreting you wont have to waste time ferreting empty sets A good marking dog is a god send to ferreters The digging isnt really ideal but its only a problem if you alow it to be. Chalkwarren ment send it down south to him Take it as a compliment Its a cracking looking type should make a very decent ferreting dog in the right hands Witton Quote Link to post
