Malt 379
Don't know about magnets, but I used to wear a copper bracelet while plastering and it seemed to work.. I knew of loads of other tradesmen who reckoned it worked too..
pip1968 2,490
iv seen people wearing copper bracelets but dont think they do anything and it just an old wives tale tbh,but i might be wrong and some sufferers swear by them
Born Hunter 17,910
I'm pretty sure there is nothing scientific to suggest they should do anything physiologically to help. Buttttt even if the effects are purely placebo, that still surely makes it worth while?
Guest long-tail
even the copper ones iv seen have a small magnet either end embedded inside of the strap
trigger2 3,325
copper bracelets appear to work for some folk and not for others. a mate of mine suffers with arthritic pain in his anckle and he wore a copper bracelet for a few years, he now wears one of those magnetic braclets and reckons it is alot better than the copper one. he reckons it was well worth paying the money for the magnetics. walshie 2,804
I have a copper one with a couple of magnets in either end. I purposely didn't wear it last winter to see if it made any difference. It did.
pip1968 2,490
What causes arthritis? In order to better understand what is going on when a person suffers from some form of arthritis, let us look at how a joint works. Basically, a joint is where one bone moves on another bone. Ligaments hold the two bones together. The ligaments are like elastic bands, while they keep the bones in place your muscles relax or contract to make the joint move. Cartilage covers the bone surface to stop the two bones from rubbing directly against each other. The covering of cartilage allows the joint to work smoothly and painlessly. A capsule surrounds the joint. The space within the joint - the joint cavity - has synovial fluid. Synovial fluid nourishes the joint and the cartilage. The synovial fluid is produced by the synovium (synovial membrane) which lines the joint cavity. If you have arthritis something goes wrong with the joint(s). What goes wrong depends on what type of arthritis you have. It could be that the cartilage is wearing away, a lack of fluid, autoimmunity (your body attacking itself), infection, or a combination of many factors.

Blackbriar 8,569
Osteoarthritis is associated with a deficiency of copper, which is absorbed through the skin, when you wear a copper bracelet. Whilst it doesn't cure the condition, which is the wearing away and inflammation of the articular cartilage, there is a high proportion of sufferers who report an improvement in pain, though this obviously can't take account of the influence of suggestion or the placebo effect, as neither can be measured. I could have saved a lot of typing by saying that my sainted Mum suffers terribly from osteoarthritis, even having both knees replaced and she absolutely swears by copper bracelets, but says magnets are a load of bollox - and if my Mum says it's true........ She's passed the condition on to me and my sisters (cheers Mum), so I really hope you find some kind of relief, mate!
trigger2 3,325
theres some stuff called cortaflex that helps with joint trouble. its farely expensive but by all accounts its money well spent. i believe they done it for race horses at first and it was that good they have brought it out for humans aswell, its supposed to help the body produce all the natural fluids in the joints. not sure if it will help with arthritus but it might well be worth looking into.
