Black Eyed Whites

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

As some may have read in some of my posts I have been at this game for a long time

and don't care about size or shape of ferrets as long as they move bunnies

However I prefer albinos or whites as the old peepers aren't so good these

days

My question is has anyone ever had a black eyed white with-out the slightest

trace of black (even a single Hair)??

In all my years I have never seen one, every BEW I have ever seen has always

had some black somewhere Even a couple of black hairs.

This question has no significance it is just for my curiosity

No, I have a black-eyed white and she goes darker in the summer but as far as I can remember is pure white in the winter..but I would guess there would be a darker hair if you looked hard enough. She is terrible at hunting though, she just never bolts a rabbit I haven't seen a ferret go down a hole for so long and get nothing done.

A bew that has dark hairs anywhere is a silver mate . most folk's wont admit that they have a silver as a bew more desirable in there eyes

I agree with you, as I have said I have never seen a totally BEW I believe that that the only

complete white is the albino ,but I may be wrong I don't profess to know enough about

genes to be sure

Oh right, I am not very good at the names of colours then, I must have a silver. But to me, it's a white ferret with black eyes that gets a few black hairs in summer

Hi Sam,..I think that most keen rabbiters would agree with you,..regarding to the colour of their working ferrets..

As you know, colour means nowt,..

However,..when a specific type of worker has been created,.that is both uniform in shape, size, ability and God forbid, colour,..it makes good sense to continue...

Many years ago,..I did just that and I tried to breed fairly close, and keep our working lines,..in house as it were...

IF you get a chance to view the antique VHS tape, Coney Catcher 2.....you will definitely see one of my pure white....Black Eyed Whites......

Anyway,..roll on the season, eh,...(hopefully, Inshallah ) I'll have some new lurcher pups to school and plenty of rabbits to go at...

Lots to look forward to..

All the best, Phil.

Totally agree Phil .I had a line that went back over 55 years (on the bitch side) both my father first and I kept it going

All albinoes but great workers nice medium ferrets (which I prefer)until I packed in ferreting after my buddy

passed and some nice guys stole the last 2 bitches of that line

Like you am looking forward to the season but need to knock some doors last year my permissions

had very small amounts to go for so may have to travel a little further afield

Good luck with your pup

Got all the coney catcher dvds will check

Good hunting

As far as I have seen, EVERY black eyed white is actually just a very light silver ferret, They all show silver guard hairs at some point in the year.

The only TOTALY white ferrets I have ever come across are albinos. (obviously)
