Nobby 65
Dose size matter lol well i think it dose matching your board size to the twine you are using can be a guessing game what size board to use and how much stretch a twine has . I was making some hemp nets once using a 2 /1/4 board then started to make some nets out of some white poly i had bought using the same board not think how much stretch it had i made about 12 up and decided to try them out next time ferreting well the day came to try them out and low and behold the rabbits that bolted went straight through the nets lol lesson learned always check how much stretch the twine has your knitting. Has any one else had rabbits go through there nets. Now if i think the twine has a bit more give in it i use a 2 inch board Quote Link to post
rabbitcatcher 1 287
I personally use a 2 inch board and that's it, saying that I've only used spun poly and nylon But not a lot gets past the 2 inch and my ferrets and collars do quite easily Atb rc1 Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
Ive always used spun polly and a 2 1/8 inch board works for me. Did think about trying a slightly bigger mesh so the ferrets can pass through easier with their collars. Quote Link to post
dpb82uk 138
only young rabbits Quote Link to post
jamesmc 582
dogs on them in 2 mins....so none escape.... ,but that's a good point mate..(matching mesh boards to different twines)...atb... Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
2 1/4" spacer for me no matter whether it's spun poly, hemp or nylon. Never had any go through though as James say's...the whippet nails em as soon as they hit the net...sometimes even tries before they hit the net Quote Link to post
Deej 22
How do you guys sort a loose loop out if you get one? usually my outside loops are looser than the meshes between( i mean a few mil longer) not sure how it happens tho lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,589
You mean looser your knots no tight enough double knot everything or you mean there longer ?. double knot your end mesh so there the same size as the rest of the row , but your doing something wrong moving your finger too early and letting it slip would be just a guess though Quote Link to post
Deej 22
must be slight slippage so if i just double knot it will that take out the slack ? not made nets for years so im rather rusty lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,589
If there slack your not doing the knot right so double knot everything till your happy there no slipping then mate , but its hard to offer advice with out watching you and trying to see where your going wrong Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
How do you guys sort a loose loop out if you get one? usually my outside loops are looser than the meshes between( i mean a few mil longer) not sure how it happens tho lol Can't quite figure out what you mean. Do you mean when you've knitted your 1st row onto the ring? If so...when knitting onto the ring the outside loops are usually slightly shorter than the middle loops. It's because of the curve on the ring. It straightens out as you go through the rows. Hope that helps Quote Link to post
Deej 22
i use a triangle to start then knit the rings on after dont think its knots slipping there quite tight, might be me slipping on the mesh board. Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
It helps if the top of your mesh board tapers to a slight point...all the knots sit neatly along it Quote Link to post
Deej 22
ill try that, its only about 2 mil thick anyway lol, suppose ill get back in the swing of things after some practice the ones ive done sofar are ok just not perfect Quote Link to post
