Ferret Racing At Shanes Castle

Recommended Posts

Forest lodge is graeful and really look forward to the day a Shanes a special outing for them Sorry this came up so quickly or I would of had some nets for the a prize If the winner of the net making kit wants a few lessons on making nets I will give up a some time or I will turn the kit into nets for them Give me a yell, See you all there Sammy & Linda

Thanks Sammy, the nets we got of you earlier in the year are of a great quality, very well knitted and bag excellent. Only problem is that they all seemed to end up in vermin catchers net bags :hmm: ....maybe something to do with hi vis orange :D . So if any of you Northern Irish ferreters are in need of any purse nets contact bowersey on here. Mick Dadd who's very well known at the Game Fairs across the water allowed Sammy to knit nets in his stall while he attended to other customers, that says a lot about Sammys net making skills. Maybe a net knitting demonstration might be possible in the future.

Shock of the day for me was seeing Terry Turkington. I hadn't seen Terry for a few years and to think he always gives us stick about keeping racing lurchers and there he's breeding racing ferrets.....

Think I need to invest into some bigger ferrets!!!!!!!

Poor wee rabbit, doesn't look very happy :D

lol neither would you if some huge, gigantic black oversized whippet was trying to latch onto your ass, but then again, there's no telling what some women are into :D:D

The owner of the rabbit said to Graham "that's a hell of a big whippet you have there mate", Graham took one look at him then at the rabbit, shook his head and walked away laughing :D:D

sure the viking lad was looking a lend of him to do the jousting display on to rest his chestnut lol

Thank you to Brian who has kindly donated a ferret carrying box which some lucky person will take home with them. I have three ferret bow back carrying boxes, a treble, a double and a single which have all been professionally made by Brian. If anyone is looking a good quality ferret box at affordable prices I would highly recommend him. pm me for his details. Once again thank you very much Brian.

Dazzam,

Thank you for your participation in the fair both as an independent line judge for the Master McGrath and for taking the initiative in bringing not only ferret racing back to the fair but also a ferret show - What next for 2014?

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
