ah ffs 500 to 50 blips. put quarry in front of the dogs men my money is on danny

Digger,

Fair play to Danny on ' picking up the gauntlet' on behalf of the working dogs and being prepared to put up £500 to go to a good cause if he lost. These arguments arise all the time over 'working' v 'show or racing' and they are divisive at a time when countrysports people need to be united rather than divided. There is a major battle going on over animal rights groups influence on government and thats what we are focusing on. That is why I attempted to turn this challenge into something positive, that could be enjoyed by people like you and me who like to see a challenge and a contest between two 'game' individuals, but that could end up with argument settled and both sides shaking hands and agreeing to differ. No one would lose face in my challenge and it stands open until one or both men turn it down.

Ill say yet again racing breed dogs aren't breed to work there breed for pace to run in competations. still don't know weather it's on working ability as your brother stated in would happen in the fields? So Ian is it a race or on the dogs working ability in the fields on live game

yes it stated in the field...nigels dog is very capable of racing and hunting after all it is a lurcher. but yes when he said in the field he meant by coursing hare or rabbit by day or night though fox was never mentioned as this does not show speed or ability it only shows hardness and hardness was never what this was all about. they come on here and say that the lurchers at the shows can only run after a plastic bag. this is being very disrespectful to the lurcher men as i know alot of them that hunt with there dogs but also put them in for the races. At the end of the day what you do with your dog is your own business and no one has the right to come on here or any other forum and run you down for it. after all if the dog is well looked after and cared for isnt that all that matters. I would like to just point out at the' field of dreams' 70 percent of all the dogs racing where hunting lurchers not race breed dogs.

king lurcher your on about lamping hares and that speed and ability is not used in hunting foxes with lurchers your insulting every lurcher man thats hunts foxes all around the country and your judging lurchers at birr :haha::lol::lol:

Mr Scent,

I think if you check what Ian said he was stating that there is a difference between a dog used on hare and rabbit and one used on foxes. At Birr he is judging dogs on conformation NOT working ability or speed . As i said although I have had my differences with Ian over the years I consider him to be a man of integrity who will judge fairly. That is all you can ask of any judge.

i think if you check, you will see running hares is still perfectly legal in ireland, north and south. this thread and the others say a lot about these shows and the people that you have involved with them. So far removed from the working dog culture in this country, yet put yourselves on a pedestal as a champion for fieldsports.

I might be wrong Scent but do you not need a licence to net and also course hares,in the gun club i think the law is you can shoot hares in season but not sure on that either as im not really one for rules,Rules were made to be broken, lol.

I don't set myself up as champion of anything other than running Game Fairs! But I do what I can wherever I can to support, promote and defend all legal country sports!

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
