Seen them mate, but they only LOOK like oil drums. They are about half the size. The real ones are about £250 or more. Anyway, as a matter of principle I have to do this even if it kills me, which rea

No, don't know what it had in it. Anyone got any plans I can use?

Give it a good clean out before you do anything with it. i cant draw for Sh*T but i'll try and find some pics of one i made a while back. i found a hinged hole in the bottom for sweeping out was a good addition. A small bit of stainless as a hot plate on one side. may have a bit spare laying around if you want it.

Any help much appreciated. i just opened my mouth and said I'd make one and now I realise i don't have a clue.

I assume you need a grid in the bottom to hold the charcoal and vents?

How can I get so out of my depth cutting a barrel in half?

a Grid at the bottom is how i do it, holes either side and a few at the front/back of the drum. Dont expect it to last forever it'll soon look tired come winter and the mrs will probably want the scrap throwing in the bin.

If you cut it right you can hinge it and make a nice flip top lid

A grinder and 1 mm slitting discs will give you a better cut than a 12" stihl

I've cut loads of these with a 12" disc cutter, nice and easy of you take your time

To add. It won't make an iota of difference what it had in. You won't create enough heat within to cause it to combust whilst cutting. Unless it was toxic waste. Then you may melt or grow an extra leg.
