Wheaton Cross

I am very intrested in the wheaton cross grey and might think about getting a pup in the near future.

 

What I was wondering is are these good allround dogs for rabbits and a bit of charlie or are the to heavy for the bunnies?

 

Do anyone of you work this cross and if so how do you rate them as an allround lamper??

 

also what would be the best cross a 1/2 or 3/4 grey or maybe a mix of other breeds?? all views welcome!!

i have a wheaten/grey x wipp, 14 months old and he just started his foxing carreer by tracking shot foxes . he a joy to train and work with. hes a shade under 23" and 38 lbs. i will pm you a few pics just because i like to show off lol and he doing me proud at the mo. he great at working with the terrier on those all important daytime bushing walks and is just getting his head round the rabbits on the lamp. this year will be his 1st proper season and he is full of potential. i aqquired him off whippetlady from this site who has access to an exceptional 1st cross wheaten/grey, and i cant speak highly enough whippetlady and craig! i would recomond 1 as an interesting and capable alternative to other better known crosses, oh and he's a great dog to be around temprament wise aswell!

my mate has 1st cross its excellent on rabbit and can do ALL LEGAL QUARRY single handed 22" looks a lot like a bedlington/greyhound my cousin had

i also have a first cross whippet wheaten. from the same folk. twenty three tts. although he is very hard bitten. would also recomend whippetlady

 

 

bear in mind he was the heaviest pup in a litter of first crosses

i work a first cross and a 3/4greyhound 1/4wheaton the first cross is brilliant on all quarry the 3/4crossnot so good on rabbits as it has a couple of inches on the first cross

what height and weight do the 3/4 crosses make ?

Had a 3/4 once,got a first cross now very pleased with him he's coming along nicely,surprisingly racey for a first cross.22 tts and also looks a lot like my mates Bedlington Greyhound first cross.Hunts well in the daytime and works well on the lamp.

My 3/4 was 24 tts.
