DAYTIME

Recommended Posts

When we were kids we had rabbiting dogs the likes of which you dont see much of nowadays they didnt need fell or moorland to catch but would work the bramble and gorse round the pits as well as any terrier they were all whippet collie xs if you got one that had thrown to the whippet you were quids in and it was nothing to come home with a dozen with the right dog.

There was a few that were breeding a regular type back then hard as nag nails but sadly they are no more and i cant remember the last time i saw a gang of kids out for bunnys times change and so do the juks im afraid.

I would have thought any small whippet type would out do most lurchers in the daytime on bunnys something about the twenty inch mark being spot on.

We have fells up here in Northumberland too, great place to get daylight rabbits with dogs..Nothing better than tramping these places and watching dogs working rabbits up, Ive had some great days sport, and even my deerhounds have got into double figures there. And bolting rabbits with ferrets for dogs, well this must be the easiest sport in the world in daylight for dogs..any cross will pick this up

Another question....

How do you prevent a dog from using its nose when lamping after you have encouraged it to do so during the day?

MOLL.

You dont Molly first nights can be a struggle if your dogs not got its recall together 100%

But they soon learn to watch the beam an hour in an area with plenty of bunnys thats all it usually takes.

Their nose will come in when the bunnys out the beam i like mine to follow on as many rabbits just give up when they hit cover and a dog that not follow on will never catch the same amount as one that will.
