Dan McDonough 560
If you've got them wormed well it's probly Coccidiosis. The birds carry it around and most folks overlook it. We use a couple of things to get rid of it. The first and likely the easiest is Albon. One time and it's done and the dogs put weight on very quickly. The one I use the most because it's cheaper is Sulfadimethoxide. I buy it in a gallon jug and put 60 cc in a five gallon bucket of water and that's all they get to drink for at least five days. Works every time and keeps the food bill down. Most folks keep woming the heck out of their dogs thinking they missed something and they have but it's not worms. Hope this helps and does the trick. A healthy dog can have coccidiosis and can not show any signs of decease i.e. a carrier but if a weaker dog comes into contact with the carrier or its waste it can pick up the decease and it can be bad and will need meds to sort it out.If a dog is at the stage where its losing lots of weight from coccidiosis it would be eating more and would have the shits and not be its self.If my dog had coccidiosis i would treat with sulphadimidine sodium 100mg of powder per kg of body-weight interval of 12-24 hours during 5days.bs40liam in your case you say your dog is its self etc just the weight loss has you concerned if its been well wormed and it hasn't got coccidiosis symptoms could be a some sort of cancer or diabetes's but sounds like your vet needs to do a lot of tests to find whats causing the weight loss.Hope you find out whats wrong and its not bad. Taz-n-Lily 62
Nice little dog. Looks a bit timid? Try knocking the dried food on the head and feeding a mix of raw and cooked meat with a bit of mixer. Tripe is good, breast of lamb raw is good, as is raw chicken (mine love chicken wings). The bones won't hurt her unless they're cooked. When you find what food suits her she'll start to put weight on over a week or so Scraps are not good. It sounds to me as though it may be diet-related. Some dogs can be fussy eaters, especially bitches. Make sure her food is somewhere where she can eat it without being disturbed, and let her take her time. Don't self-medicate. I'm not saying this for everyone, but in this case I advise a change of diet as above, initially. If there is no improvement even when she is eating normally/well after a couple of weeks, take her back to the vet. Feel free to pm me if you're stuck.
