MrsChamp606 553
Hey guys, My oldest bitch (7) has had some serious graft over the years and is now showing some signs of it. After a good 3 or 4 hours mooch or a solid couple of hours on the lamp the next day she is a write off, really stiff, doesn't want to move too much. I appreciate she ain't a pup and is moving towards the end of her working career but is there anything I can give her to help me stay loose and not stiffen up so much? I'm thinking cod liver oil capsules and a good rub down, any one else got any advice? Cheers

Bootsha 1,306
get her some carprofen tabs , like rimadyl anti inflamatoriy pain killers, when she is having some obvious discomfort from aches and pains, give her a tablet, makes a biig difference to the dog. they are also called non steroidal anti inflmatory's (NSAIDS). Giro 2,648
I have a older bitch.. I just accept the next day she not going out hunting.. Give he a short walk to help loosen her up,fed good grub and give her a good rub down. I just try and take mine 3 times a week lamping.. Daytime dont seem to effect her as badly. I have heard folk recomend cod liver oil for joints, I think Bootsa is more on the money with anti inflamatories is musclur discomfort, fatigue and old age. It so gutting seening a older dog slowing up and ageing..

skycat 6,174
I'm an old bitch and I hurt like hell after being out more than a couple of hours. Lamping is worse than day time as you can't see where you are putting your feet: imagine what it's like for a dog running flat out in the dark: each foot that drops in a hollow or hits a bump jars the old joints much more when you can't see exactly where to put your feet. A good day's rest and some anti-inflammatories work wonders, for me and my old dogs. Massage can help as well, but more often than not its the joints that are causing the problem: edges of bones get worn, arthritis sets in as there is less lubricant to keep the cartilage working properly. But I know that my old dogs would sooner be out doing something than sat at home remembering what they used to do: just take it a bit easier with them and don't expect them to put in a full shift: the mind may be willing but the old flesh just can't hack it any more.

jasher 55
Also worth trying is massaging her with liniment before running her and once you're done. A good boneman reccomended me this when he looked over a bitch of mine it def reduces stiffness the next day in her. Edited to add- I was reccomended either Curacho or Green rub. events co-ordinator 353
www.lintbells.com sorry that should do it all the surviving terriers Meg, Suzy and Blompy 14 yrs old this April get one a day if meg is off them for more than two days you can see her slowing down and stiffening up. Meg and Suzy worked foxes above and below ground until thier thirteenth birthday. They are all retired now as long as you do'nt let them off the lead outside cos they would'nt sign up for early retirement
jack2o 45
agree with the yumove capsules they worked for my older dog took him to vets for a reoccuring limp every time he ran proper he would limp for days after. they said arthiritis and told me to get the yumove within a few weeks he was much better even took a few tumbles that i thought would start it off again but still no limp.definitely recommend it for arthiritis
