patterdalejoel 669
went out for a good day today, i took loads of good pics but cant find the fecking lead so will have to do with 1 EOD went right up the tops, on the pit bike again, stopped off for our brunch/lunch in a little shooting hut with table and chairs, and had a chat with a couple of walkers...... i had a great starter of soup with a main course of blue wenslydale and home roasted ham with a desert course of rice crispy and mars bar cakes not bad for a days ferreting... we finished off with 11 for the day, all going through the mincer tomorrow morning for dog food.... we got 4 or 5 by bolting from a warren close to a rabbit netted fence and blocking up the nearet drop box that we couldnt open as it was padlocked, we shoved a stone in the entrance and them rabbits didnt half crack their head on that rock, then we let the dog pick them up as they tried to run elsewhere, resulting in 1 or 2 cracking courses over the heather and grass as they desperately tried the find sanctuary, all resulting in a catch windy as fook blowing you off balance at some points so couldnt hear a fooking thing, dog could a bit though. we then headed up, catching/digging the odd few along the way, then we got to a patch that had been destroyed by the rabbits, every single bit was covered in shale that was dug up by the coneys and then the rain washed the soil away.... the dog made 2 excellent catches (also in charlies word, i have witnesses for my bragging! ) on some awful scree, that im sure many wouldnt even let there dog off the lead near very long both courses, up hill with 1 going out of sight and resulting un some sprinting to the top to see. dog was shagged at the end of the day, needs longer legs! you can see land in background, it is truly been ravaged by the rabbits. my ferrets seem to of found form also, and arent shit anymore, with 1 sticking till dug so yeah, 11 bunnies, 1 shagged dog, lots of organic dog food, and plenty of banter cheers charlie 3 Quote Link to post
ryballnben 22
jesus that ground is f, u, c, k, i, n, g, rough !!! fair play to the mutt,, no injuries? id be letting mine away on that.. well done. ATB ry. Quote Link to post
patterdalejoel 669
nah she had 1 little scratch on the inside of her front leg, but that was it, a bit of green spray and she was reet again. i think as she is small there is not a large amount of weight for her to put on her feet, so she is fine. never even had a limp, dont know how really. EDIT: some may see it as irresponsible, but this is the job i got her for and this is the land, so thats that. ill be fecked if im going to keep her on the lead all day going stir crazy. i know what shed rather do, and i know id rather have her injured than not doing what she is bred for. max abell 196
Bugger having to dig a rabbit out on that ground mate well done on a nice few bunnies and what a cracking little dog Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Thats the ground PJ, and thats what the dog has to do. No kid gloves up there feller, its basically natural selection up there. A clever dog will just hold back enough to keep itself out of serious trouble, you know what happens with a desperate dog. Give the dog the choice, i dont think it would turn the chance down, even with the risk of a bad un Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
By the way, whats wrong with your face? Quote Link to post
pip1968 2,490
id run my dog their when your out poaching you run your dog and dont even check out the ground to see if its alright and that dog has probably been run on that land from a pup so id imagine he,ll be fine Quote Link to post
patterdalejoel 669
thats it brimmer, and if i dont run her up there then she wont get to run a lot. i reckon she does hold back just a bit, there was a few times i thought she could put in a strike, but she chose to do it in more of a suitable place. i really and suprised she hasnt even had a limp or a knocked toe. and i just dont like the idea of my face being all over the world wide web, thats all and my face looks disabled in that pic Quote Link to post
