I wouldnt buy a Plummer if all i wanted to do was digging, i,d proberbly go for a black dog tbh, but plenty of these fail, but if you wanted a good all rounder on top with the odd dig thrown in, then a Plummer from one of the lads that works them above and below would be my choice, theres good and bad in all breeds/types but buying from stock that does the type of work your going to do is edgeing your bets, theres plenty of Plummers and black dogs and other terriers for that matter that never get work of any sort never mind dug too, buster.

Beagle, Fell, & Bull blood in them, interesting, i honestly didnt know what they were made up of.. Would you say it's not taken many traits from 2 of the 3?

Alimac and Whippet 99,its nice to see you now understand the breeding and the reasons behind it, all 3 traits are evident in some lines of plummer but too much was made about coat type and colour,also showing and selling them to middle class ownership deliberately set the breed back years,unless decent dogs are bred and sold to lads with the potential to work them then the working side suffers,this has crept into many breeds in the past and the reason that work should always be put before show.Alimac my comment on nose and drive on rats is plain to see if you ever you get a chance to see a decent plummer work,they were also bred through the beagle to help them pack well whilst bushing or hunting quarry,regarding the reckless comment on not knowing what to do when they do face up their quarry is again spoken from never having seen one work,most of those I've bred down the years are just like all other breeds of terrier,some are too hard and suffer damage and some will make good baying dogs,another point to mention is that some can be called out,granted it may take a while but so long as they've not been bitten some will call out "eventually" LOL's, you may think my last comment means they lack the heart to stay untill dug but I have seen the same dog stay as long as 7hours in an earth on an old railway line.My last comment will upset some plummer owners as the majority of plummers will never have the breeding to make decent all rounders but in todays modern climate it may not be a bad thing and again I suppose this could apply to lots of other breeds,WM

Then I shall just say again Peter that you've never been out with a decent one and if memory serves me right you admitted your own black terriers were no world beaters,we all work the type that appeals to us, but with the law in its present state I only try to keep dogs that will work within it,Dogs that "give and take what a patt can" are of no use in the heavilly policed areas I have my permission on,it is different for the irish and europeans as their laws are so much more forgiving than ours,but untill the laws are repealed (if ever) then we have to endeavour to work within them.WM

Breeding beagle into a terrier to help 'pack', at least the border started off as a true working terrier before deteriorating. Plummer went down the wrong route from the start, why not choose a line of russell & look to improve on that rather than detract from what a terrier should be by adding hound blood? Each to their own but I cant see what a Plummer gives that any other working breed couldn't if given the chance. Seen Plummer pups advertised for silly money over the years from 'known' breeders....with the good of the breed in mind obviously

never seen a great plummer dog to ground or a very good nose. i would go for leggy russell type as a all rounder.but when it comes to hard digging the dog for the job are ken guold brian nuttall old type.jonny parks .patts are the dogs i have 40 years seeing them all work.les

His russells were mute,didn't have great noses on them and at the end of the day it's only your personal opinion that he didn't improve HIS OWN terriers,plummer himself thought otherwise Corkyjohn.

Brian plummer knew exactly what he was doing with the help of other. These little red and white terrier we seen today are a testament to the great man himself. He has produced a fantastic all rounder TERRIER that are second to none and in my opinion they will just keep getting better and better
