Mustelid 144
I'm considering lining my lurcher bitch with a top quality gwp. My bitch is out of Chippers Nell to a pointer x lurcher named Dougie. She's 22 inches and looks like a well built merle whippet, four years old and a good bitch on rabbits and rats. I've not decided 100% on doing the mating as yet... I want to gauge any interest in the pups first. I have homes for three already. Before the internet police start spoiling the post I know that this mating isn't going to produce lightning quick all rounders. However, I hope it would produce hard working bushing dogs that will work rats and rabbits well and hunt for fun. If you've any sensible thoughts I would be pleased to hear them. Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Any pictures of the bitch fella?? Just out of intrest really.. I would not be after one myself Would make decent hunters, working cover ~ hitting rabbits in the rushes ~ Ferreting etc.. Seen Nell in the flesh working. I thought she was a cracking bitch at what she done Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,165
Sounds interesting. Is there pointer in the bitch already then? Would that make the pups 3/4 pointer? 1 Quote Link to post

I would have torn your arm clean off mate, just what Im after... but I had a sibling to your bitch out of nell, which didnt work out, so sorry, cant take the risk. Quote Link to post
Mustelid 144
Dougie was by Dave Sleights Boy Blue out of a bitch that was half pointer, so there's only an eighth pointer in my bitch. Surprised your pup out of Nell didn't work out, the information I've had on the rest of the litter has been positive. Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Not as suprised as I was I tell ya! Quote Link to post
albert64 1,882
i've got the brother to your bitch, and he's like a big merle whippet he'll hunt any cover and find any game but he was quite boisterous and does'nt like strangers good on the lamp but an out and out ferreting dog if putting her to a gwp will give you a dog your looking for do it as i take it your breeding for yourself so you've only yourself to please Quote Link to post
reddawn 2,173
like ye said pal widnae be my type a dog for lampin, but if i was after a lurcher for hunting up daytime, then this is what id be after, atb way them if ye decide to go ahead Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
Not as suprised as I was I tell ya! What happened with it fella ?? My pal had one out the litter, that never liked strangers and he had to part with it.. Was howling in the kennels and would not eat. ( he had other bitches in season) was to much hassel and he parted with his at young age.. Was shaping up nice no on the lamp was a merle dog.. Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,165
If I didn't live on the fens, I would be very interested. I love dogs that hunt and I would say a dog of this breeding would be as good as they get. But for me and the terrain I hunt there would probally be too much nose and not enough leg. Good luck if you decide to breed mate. Quote Link to post
malc1 544
ive herd that they are great daytime dogs and do realy well on the lamp but thats first x pointer greys the reports ive had have been spot on if it wasnt for me haveing my gsd x i would have one off my mate Quote Link to post
patterdalejoel 669
my freinds racy lab, (which i think has pointer in it ) is a fantastic dog for mooching/ferreting on the hills/dale, shame he beats with it and has to hold it back from the rabbs. i think they would be a great cross theoretically.
