ollywilli 49
Just a thought, I understand there can be problems with any pregnancy and births of dogs but can this be heightened with using a larger dog covering a smaller dog. For example I have seen litters of jrts x with parson jrts not sure which way around they are but potentially the parsons could be the male at 15 inch tts and the bitch could be the jrt at 10 inches tts. IF this was the case could this be a hightened problem or would the pups come out ok as a regular size of a jrt pup or would the longer legs restrict the birth?? Has any one got any experiance or thoughts of this at all??
donnyc 1,203
Or potentially the Parson dog could be 12 inch and the russell bitch 15 inch >>>??not the legs that cause problems most problems are heads or breach ..Using stuff that you know nothing about the G parents GG parents it all adds up ..Could be massive stuff just a couple of generations away on one side and tiny stuff on the other ..Whats put in a pot will out when you really dont want it too
downsouth 8,384
Idont think its a problem as long as the bitch is kept in good nick during pregnancy.I think more problems occure when people overfeed and underexercise bitches as soon as they are bred resulting in fatter pups being born and bitches that tire quickly during whelping.
Tam O'Void 297
Put aside about £400 for an emergency C -section ...just incase ,if history of big dogs(strong heads) in the Mix..
ollywilli 49
Thanks so far. Would the pups come out the bitch a bit larger with the father been a bit larger? And would or could this cause a problem coming throught the cervic and birth canal etc or could the slightly longer legs be a problem? I think that's what is was trying to ask but came out wrong lol. Or are all pups regarless of mother and father about the same size, Tam... That was something I though.
downsouth 8,384
I know of a litter of pups born from a 13" Patterdale terrier bitch and a 26"95lb american bulldog. The owner told me that when the 3 pups were born they were just regular terrier size pups and then just grew like f**k. blackstaff 488
I bred my Stafford bitch ( 17 1/2" ) to a non ped whippet of about 23 / 24" and didn't have any bother. She was A I but all went well. As said previously keep the bitch in good health and shape and always have the money for C section just in case. When I bred my bitch she was in pretty much the best nick she ever was which imo helped. ATB, Blackstaff Edited November 5, 2012 by blackstaff
