foxfan 479
Pay extra to travel on motorways. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/9639742/Motorists-to-pay-higher-rate-of-road-tax-for-right-to-drive-on-motorways-under-plans-examined-by-Government.html
walshie 2,804
Just means the side roads will be gridlocked instead of motorways.
chilli 381
These are our roads which we have already paid for & are paying to keep them in a decent order , so what makes any goverment think they can get away with trying to make us pay more money to use them . Born Hunter 17,974
So are people that use motorways suddenly gonna have to pay more or are those that don't suddenly gonna get a reduction? I suspect the former. What about people that only use motorways half a dozen times a year for a long run north or south? Will we have to buy a day pass? LOL. What if, like I have many times, you get fecking lost and take a wrong turning off of a roundabout and end up on a motorway slip road without the higher tax? Don't we already pay silly crazy tax on fuel.... f**k off road tax and let fuel duty cover all motoring related expenses..... the more miles you do or bigger gas guzzler your drive the more you contribute in tax and so the green living incentive is still there surely, why another type of tax (road tax)? More bullshit in my opinion, not sure of the reasoning either. Tax to encourage green living...... how is it 'green' to travel from a to b via a network of A & B roads constantly accelerating and braking than directly at a generally constant fuel efficient speed? Maybe the government should stop milking the oil industry for all it's worth and put some serious wonga into scientific research for real and feasable alternatives...... This whole "we're really concerned about the world" cycling through London bullshit while the big jag and landy follow with their team and milking the worlds dependance on oil for all they can is getting a bit old now. scothunter 12,609
Old or not , it's still the most valuable commodity that we have. I suspect they are pouring billions into alternative energy, but as per usual we will be the last to hear if it. Then they will spend millions selling us the idea. Then spend the rest of our life's paying for it lol

I just don't believe the governments of this world are doing enough because they are using the worlds dependance on it like a dealer would a with addicted drug user so the whole "we're green!" attitude doesn't wash with me. And just to clarify, I'm no eco warrior either. saving the planet has no bearing on my choice of car. Edited October 29, 2012 by Born Hunter
walshie 2,804
More worryingly, how are they going to know what roads we are using? Hopefully not trackers that will tell them where we have been and how fast we were going.

They would enforce it with those reg recognition cameras already on motorways. The same ones they use to catch poachers entering Lincolnshire, lol.

All garage forecourts are soon to be fitted with them (numberplate recognition) any vehicle with no tax/insurance/mot, or outstanding PCNs etc = No Fuel. Wander on to the wrong road without the appropriate license, expect a fine to drop through your door.
walshie 2,804
If they use ANPR cameras on motorways "just for this purpose", they could use the photos to work out your average speed. And I'm sure they will. Doesn't matter to me as my disco only does 75.
