Lol I was joking mate!! jigsaw 11,902 Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Share Posted October 29, 2012 well BH,I never heard of a dog guarding his kennell,thats a new one for me.if a dog is like that,it has nothing to do with food,hes just a dodgy animal and should be dealt with accordingly.Now I admit I see your point with the bones,I have taken bones from dogs when I think theyve had enough,I have thrown goat heads into dogs and let them chew away for an hour or so and then while they were eating I would reach down and take it from them and give it to another dog.Sooo I have done exactly what your saying and have only realised it after reading your post.It looks like there are times when you might need to take that food from him after all .so im going to shut up now as im talking shit it seems,lol. lurcher1.didnt cop that.lol.That bloke is just a pathetic idiot to do that to any animal.He has mental issues I think,any person finding it necessary to carry on this way have problems in their own life they cant conquer,hopefully he'll pack up dogs and soon too for the sake of his animals. 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

gnasher16 31,124 Posted October 29, 2012 Report Share Posted October 29, 2012 Seeing this is a thread about Staffordshire Terriers,a breed notorious for following its instinct of being dog aggressive...................would you people who are so adamant as regards the food thing......be equally as adamant about stopping a Staffie being dog aggressive ?.......anyone who has owned or been around dog aggressive bull terriers will know its virtually impossible,so whats the answer .....you simply avoid situations....................or..............should you beat and batter the dog into acceptance in order to establish YOUR dominance over what is also a perfectly natural trait in a dogs makeup. My personal view would be that I wouldn't have that type of dog if I wasn't happy with the types behaviour. It'd be like stopping a spaniel from hunting or a greyhound from running, it's what they are bred for. But i don't see that as the same as a dog acting aggresively to it's owner over food. I just don't see it as acceptable behaviour as I don't see killing sheep as acceptable behaviour, albeit both 'natural' behaviours. If I thought it was damaging the dog in any way mentally i would reassess it but I really don't see it. I'm not fecking behaviourist, just see what's in front of me. Perhaps experience in different types of dog is drawing different conclusions.... What i was getting at,is dog aggression is as natural and instinctive to some dogs as possessiveness over food is to others.......are we to believe that possessiveness over food is not a deep seated trait within dogs over centuries of breeding ? as is dog aggression is in certain breeds,as is chasing quarry is in certain breeds etc etc.......................ok so that possessiveness over food shows itself in the make up of a dog sometimes....as does dog aggression and chasing quarry....................what are we to do try to physically and mentally alter the blueprint of dogs with our own interpretations of right and wrong.....or simply allow a dog to be what he genetically is and take necessary precautions................................like being careful around a dog while feeding in the case of a naturally food possessive dog,like avoiding confrontation in a naturally dog aggressive dog ....and on and on.
