I don't know anyone else that has running dogs with ridgeback in them and very few people have dogs with borzoi in them. Most popular breeds in running dogs over here are whippet, bull, deerhound, greyhound. So not really any different to over your way Quote Link to post

old school 578
That's not what they were bred to do when ye breed originated! Dog for a job and as a breed it doesn't have one anymore not over here anyway I dont think theres hardly any original wolfhound blood in wolfhounds these days... I recollect reading an article by colonel david handcock that mentioned in passing that wolfhounds are a recreated breed using some deerhound and great dane blood yup... i read that too!! i think there was more emphasis on the great dane by the show folk!! edited to say>> i remember someone in armagh selling wolfhound x whippet/grey pups in the buy and sell paper.. a year later they started popping up in it again under the usual 12month old and 'unspoilt' shite ye usually read in there! Cleanspade 3,324
i had a wolfhound it was a rescue dog and was slower than a month in the jail. turned like a boat and refused to jump even the smallest fences / streams. we had him out whilst exersizing a pack of russells and they shifted a cub from a bramble patch. big shamus jumped a fance and picked it up. then stood there and refused to jump back. very nice natured animal but i would think there is better out there for breeding lurchers. there is a pic on here of him with a russell somewhere. lietome 138
Anyone use them on here?what are they like?any pics?' You might as well ask what deerhounds are like. The reason being is becuase when the numbers where so few some years back they used deerhounds (alot of them) to stir the gene pool to stop inbreeding and the extinction of the breed. Due to this most of these so called irish wolf hounds have nothing close to irish wolf in them any more. Hope it helps and a bit great dane Quote Link to post
