RISE to stage RALLY at BIRR GAME FAIR

Recommended Posts

RURAL IRELAND SAYS ENOUGH!

RISE at the Irish Game and Country Fair, Birr Castle, 25th & 26th August 2012

RISE (Rural Ireland Says Enough!), will be very much in evidence at the forthcoming Irish Game and Country Fair in Birr Castle on 25th and 26th August. At 1.15pm on Sunday 26th, a large contingent of RISE supporters from the various organisations will assemble inside the main entrance to the Castle and will be led to the main arena where a short address will be made by RISE spokesperson, Philip Donnelly of the Irish Masters of Beagles Association.

All country sports enthusiasts will be invited to join them in the arena and around the arena to demonstrate their support for the RISE campaign. The short rally will be photographed and televised for www.dogandcountry.tv so do come along and make this rally a real show of support for country sports and the rural way of life.

RISE came into existence to mount a spirited defence to moves by former Green Party Minister for the Environment John Gormley’s attacks on hunting, particularly against the Ward Union Hunt Club whose hunting he banned. Fine Gael, in a pre-general election pact with NARGC, gave a firm commitment to repeal Gormley’s legislation in return for electoral support from all hunting associations but since coming into office the Party has reneged on the deal. In the meantime, other issues which have given rise to further concerns have arisen, such as the administration of firearms licensing and animal welfare legislation. These are seen as the hallmark of a general attitude by Government towards rural Ireland, where sceptic tank charges, closure of Garda Stations and cessation of Hospital services are also giving rise to anti-government sentiment.

RISE is seeking to have the promised repeal of the Ward Union ban honoured, the firearms licensing issues addressed and it is monitoring the progress of the animal welfare legislation through both Houses of the Oireachtas. RISE is appealing to all Government TD’s to support the reasonable requirements of its large rural support base.

Everyone who supports the ethos of RISE is urged to turn up at Birr Castle on Sunday the 26th and show a level of support which will leave no doubt that rural Ireland is alive and watching very closely how public representatives are meeting our needs.

RISE is supported by:

National Association of Regional Game Councils NARGC

Irish Coursing Club ICC

Irish Masters of Fox Hounds Association IMFHA

Irish Deer Society IDS

Ward Union Hunt Club WUHC

Irish Masters of Mink Hounds Association IMMA

Irish Foot Harriers Association IFHA

Countryside Alliance Ireland CAI

Federation of Irish Salmon and Sea Trout Anglers FISSTA

Irish Masters of Beagles Association IMBA

Irish Game Protection Association IGPA

Wild Deer Association of Ireland WDAI

Irish Masters of Harriers Association IMHA

DO come and show your support!

The IWTF will indeed be there Sam, both to support RISE and to have their stall there enabling any new clubs to join up.

It looks like it's all adding up to be a great day and a very important day for ALL fieldsports in general.

LOL, it must be putting pressure on those who oppose us,the anti's have just organised a march in Dublin on the same day.

Sam,

Thanks and hopefully we will get a chance to meet at last at Birr. I think it is a great opportunity for a show of the strength of feeling there is in the country for defending our country sports and the rural way of life in order that future generations can gain the enjoyment that we have had from our sports and the time we spend in the countryside.

Neil,

It is good to have the IWTF present at Birr and I hope it helps generate good positive communications within the terrier & lurcher fraternity and them with other countrysports people.

As all the main organisations will be exhibiting at Birr we felt it offered a great opportunity for RISE to demonstrate good strength of numbers. The demonstration will take place at 1.30 in the main arena - you will be otherwise engaged at that time !- but it would be good to see the IWTF represented there.

Numbers will be important and where will the majority of country sports people be on the 26th august - why at their National Game Fair at Birr Castle. Keith and Harry from www.dogandcountry.tv will be there to film for distribution through a number of channels to a world wide audience and Paul Pringle , the editor of our Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine who has been working with RISE'S media team will be there to ensure that it achieves maximum post event publicity. I can do no better than quote Paul's facebook quote :

" I expect huge media coverage. We have publicised the RISE event along with NARGC and RISE. What a stage to make very specific points on serious issues to a massive audience!! I will be in the Main Arena to show solidarity and I hope many will be shoulder to shoulder in support of RISE. Be there or take up Morris Dancing!"

And they shall be Albert.

After the fantastic support shown to the IWTF by other fieldsports organisations it is essential we be there in support of RISE.

On my rounds this morning I met some of the hunt staff of the Ward Union as they went about their duty of looking after their farmers.

As you know the Ward Union stag hounds were a large factor in the forming of RISE.

Who'd of guessed a few years ago that on the 26th next that the Stag Hunter will stand next to the coursing man or the beagler or the wildfowler or a terrier or lurcher man. All there for the same reason.

To ensure that fieldsports will be there for the next generation.

IMO it's something to be excited about and great to be a small part of.

it also put people under an obligation to attend the fair.surely the capatail is the best place for a rally with the antis marching on the same day.heavy security tv coverage assured FREE.

It has not put people under an obligation to attend the far - most serious country sports people will be going anyway. PR is difficult to get right and with public rallies especially ones that could be confrontational totally impossible to control. My own steer on this is that I consider that RISE's decision ( not mine) to hold a dignified rally assured of excellent support at Birr is much better for country sports than attempting to confront a march in Dublin. We represent the MAJORITY of people who live, work or play in the Irish countryside and for us to be seen counter demonstrating could well give the impression of a minority protest movement which is exactly what the antis are! I don't think it would do much good for RISE's profile or country sports law abiding reputation to be seen provoking a heavy security response or indeed being involved in confronting a heavy security response! Confronting or demonstrating against a march in Dublin could well deliver guaranteed publicity for both Antis and country sports but what type of TV coverage!
