Nice shooting as usual Si, Tony has clearly done a remarkable job on your 97K. I bet you're pleased as punch. It seemed to hammer those woodies too!   Milegajo, I'm on whatsapp, its the best app on

Again im impressed Si . That rifle shoots consistently like a pcp . I thought on the video of you shooting rabbots at a stable off a fence post , that it was VERY quiet , and seemed to have very littl

Body shots will always bring up different opinions and what I'm about to say is just mine based on my own experience. I may get some grief for this, but here goes.....   I don't think pellet weight

Heart/lung shot? Range? You usually go in for the headshots.

That was 5x mag. He emerged 8 yards from my position, The TH208 is zeroed to 10-26 yards, so the ThunderBolt should have hit just below the shoulder but it is possible the lightweight zinc pellet just didn't cut the mustard... They've ripped my metal funnel trap to shreds so I'm guessing that's pure adrenaline that fuelled that scoot before his lungs gave out.

Hell fire Mike,

Ditch those thunderbolt things, they are much too hard and fast at that range for a heart lung shot especially in .177

At close range you need to get as much kinetic energy transfere as possible into the CNS or decimate the brain

8 yrs and you coukdnt go for a headshot?

Wasn't convinced the zinc thunderbolts which I have never used for hunting would take it cleanly so went for the soft tissue. In fact, judging by the lack of deformation against metal, it more than likely passed right through making a headshot the better option in retrospect.

They're .22 but I think what you say is still accurate and now proven.

Yeah, with the design of them they tend to keep themselves straight as they go through the soft tissue making a clean hole, where as a diablo waisted pellet tends to tumble through causing a much wider and (for want of a better word) Dirtier wound tract leading to more bloodloss.

Do a few autopsies Mike and study the effect of the pellets on the soft tissue and bones.

I've done hundreds and it teaches you a hell of a lot about what you can and what you cant get away with.

Funnily enough I was explaining some of this to Chris earlier

Well I guess we've all learned something from this thread eh :hmm:

Zinc Pellets, close range and soft tissue are not a good mix

And most importantly, if you have a springer, Tony at SFS is the best man to sweeten it up :notworthy:

Wonder what he could do to my XS19 :hmm: although it would cost more to have the work done than it did to buy the gun

Expertise like Tony's just cant come cheap!

I thought on the video of you shooting rabbots at a stable off a fence post , that it was VERY quiet , and seemed to have very little `kick` to it . I dont doubt Tony`s work for a minute , but to be fair it helps if the bloke on the end is pretty good too . Nice work buddy , Bust

Aye, that was 1) my first heart and lung shot due to second guessing myself (13gr lightweight pellet) and 2) my first shot in anger with a ThunderBolt.

On paper they're excellent through the TH208, I shouldn't have underestimated their stopping power. :nono:

Oh, and correct if I'm wrong gents but I don't think Tony works on SMK's
