fazza123 517
I have awoken this morning ready for my weekly Sunday sofa session and have stumbled accross the olympics on the BBC. I am astounded at the sheer lack of talent that this country produces. We are a POOR sporting nation. I for one will not be sucked in by fake , naieve and uneducated euphoria that comes from sporting occasions like this. I was the same at the Euro's .. i was the same at wimbledon. (the tour de france i couldnt care less about) . Why are we so poor at everything ?? This morning i have watched Bulgaria beat us at volleyball. ... Bulgaria !!! Our best player was called okulamfia kowaduku .. i mean . c'mon Andy Murray is supposed to be world number #4 ... he is out of he doubles already .. !! Mark Cavendish was a surefire gold .... he was outside the top 30 .. Who is our nearest challenge to Usain Bolt ???? FACE FACTS we are are poor sporting nation in every respect. I hear our cricket team are world number 1 , ... Strauss ( born s.africa) Pieterson (born s.africa) Trott (yep you guessed it , born s.africa Paneser (wears a turban to bowl) Golf .. World number 1 Luke Donald .. has lived in chicago since age 6 Boxing - Lennox lewis , Amir Khan , Prince naseem .. Ricky Hatton is the best real English boxer of recent times.. seated on his arse twice by Mayweather and pacquio and showed a complete lack of class. Hang on ... we just won a heat of the archery ... Get behind Team GB .. !! bollocks .. when did we become team GB ?? it sounds american for a kick off. I'll be glad when its over .. in the meantime i will support USA .. they always seem to do OK. x
johnny boy68 11,726
Andy Murray is a singles player, so being knocked out of doubles isn't a big thing. 4 grand slam finals he's reached in probably the most contested era of tennis. Golf, Mcilroy #3, Westwood #4, Rose #10 and Macdowell #11
scothunter 12,609
Think your being a bit hard there. I caught the tail end of the gymnastics lady night, Britain were scoring decent marks. You mentioned volley ball , but tbh our team would have been training hard for years, as will the other nations, but don't matter how hard you train in a team sport you all need to be on top form, I think we will do well. Btw who else thinks sailing is shit lol

He's got has good a chance as anybody, Federer is probably the best player to play tennis BUT he's got 1 Olympic gold in ????????? The doubles !! Sport is a fickle thing if you don't play to the highest standard you'll get beat.
bird 10,014
Successive Goverments over the last 20 years or more have downgraded the Importance of Sport in Schools,Youth Clubs, Athletic Clubs ect ect They should be Goverment Funded as this in Turn will cut down on Crime, ILLness leading to a strain on NHS. Across the board we are average from Football to Athletics. It needs to be addressed and fast. what it is max, when any big event comes up , the TV + papers start to fill your head with (hype) and we start to belive or wont to it. And bottom line we just aint good enough . you only can prouduce talent if its there to begun with

fazza123 517
i agree .. sailing is not a sport. neither is a horse walking round in circles. Gnasher16 - when you say size , do you mean area or population. ?? if we say population (this is fairer i hope you agree, after all the point you make is that they have more to choose from) We have 62m on 2011 census Spain 40m Argentina 40m Australia 22m Jamaica 2.7m (who will likely produce the gold and silver in the 100&200m) Sorry gnasher .. you just been gnashed !! Facts are some folk are just better than you at what they do and try as you may you will never beat them. Some of these men/women who have qualified for the Olympics no they have no chance of making a final never mind win a medal but they'll still be happy to say they made it there...
