Terriers and rat poison

If i set my dog onto rats that are been fed poison is that a bad move? Will the poison travel through the rat to my dog or will it be okay? If she does get hold a rat that is dying from poison what is the best thing to do? Any advice will help thanks

its a jab. had terriers poisoned in kennels a few years ago. dont look right in themselves.

if in doubt, get them to your vet.

secondary piosoning is pritty much a thing of the past with the new rodenticides, the dog would have to be eating loads of dead rats over a number of days. the same with direct poisoning unless it was eating poison over a number of days.

Where i have premission there are a fair few rats and have been for a while and the farmer got some pest controll guys in who have had about 5 over the past few months but i do know that there are a few sick ones about just wanted to clear them out for the farmer but didnt know if it was wise atb lads thanks for the help

Like Paul said your dog would have to eat a load of dead rat's to be affected..i have kill many many rat's over the year's some poisoned and some not..crack on and get them killed with the terrier aslong as the dog is not eating them you will be fine..

hi mate had a dog a couple of years back a very good young dog he eat a rat one day when out on a mates farm that night got realy ill next day took him2 vets nothing thay could do it was the poison the ray eat that killed him dont risk it pal

Somebody must have been killing rats with strichnine then.......wouldn't happen with your off the shelf poisons nowadays.....
