Recommended Posts

got a phone call from my 14 year old daughter today whilst i was at work to tell me 1 of my 10 week old kits had died i could have cried i love them little stinkers!! she was fine when we went to bed but when my daughter checked them this morning as she does every morning she noticed the kit, it had some blue die around her face and was bleeding from the mouth as she died!! i can't understand it and have been racking my brains to think and theres nothing that was any different from the past 2 weeks we have had them its horrible when a animal you keep dies in your care i feel proper gutted:(

unfortunatly you do lose stock over the years and upsetting it can. i thought bleeding from the mouth would suggest internal bleeding. but the cause of it would better to come from a expert.expect to lose animals especially when you work them a occupational hazard in some cases. although others never seem to get injured i am mainly taking about dogs here. all you can do is carry on its all part of the experience of owning animals.good luck for the future.atb

mate had to have a lurcher put down before it was the best bitch ive had from i started keeping lurchers when the vet put it down and it died it started to bleed from the mouth and the vet told me that the dog had been poisioned or ate something that was poision so i would say that the same thing has happened to ur ferret if it has bleed from its mouth atb

slug pellets are usually blue too, had she been running anywhere other than her cage?

Mine will eat insects if I'm giving them a run in the garden, I always pick up any snails or slugs before I let them out.

My thoughts exactly i.e. slug pellets. Where are the ferrets kept (outdoors?) and could a contaminated slug have found it's way through the mesh into the cage and taken as a snack :hmm:

hi all thanks for your kind words and input!

the only thing i can put it down to is that she got a snail or slug she has been in a run in the garden but both of them were!! and they have been no where near any poison or slug pellets as far as I'm aware!!
