hedz31 1,308
C'mon lads !! Lets have some more soul bearing !!LOL !! Who else works their dogs all year round ???? Cheers. I don,t feel the need to overwork the land, why make inroads into unworthy quarry that will be a better days sport later on,especially when it grows to a size that may better challenge the dogs.Ive plenty to do at this time of year, the dogs can still be kept physically fit with a few leisurely walks and swims.I find the dogs are physically and mentally so much fresher come late autumn, due to a break, less chance of picking up knocks and bangs and a chance to recover from an arduous season. Really i find dog's that are kept running and working all year round suffer less injurys muscles etc when they get it hard come the cutting of the corn 1 Quote Link to post

They do get a break there work load drops most muscle injurys ive seen in dog's usualy happen at the start of the season when they go from nothing to a heavy work load i prefer to keep them ticking over at a steady rate and i find them less injury prone and happier in themselves but each to there own Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
C'mon lads !! Lets have some more soul bearing !!LOL !! Who else works their dogs all year round ???? Cheers. Anyone will know there are risks when working dogs, but you can reduce some uncessesary injuries. One for me would be not running my dog throught the summer on hard ground... But with the weather we have had I would not worrie about running them.. I know I will struggle come dec and jan to get good numbers, so I wont go at them now there would be nothing left come oct lol. I would for "reducing the weight" up the exercise and reduce the food intake with regular adjustment all dogs will respond differently. I would not worrie to much about a little extra weight soon run it off with a few days or nights graft.. How long have you been troting them behind car and there still over weight?? At a guess your over feeding. 1 Quote Link to post
riohog 5,938
if you got abit of grassland to let them have a run on , let em run . if they catch a rabbit or two in the summer ..so what. .they wont learn fk akk stuck in a kennell , and they dont get .fat i wouldnt bother lamping in the summer .no need if theve had a run in the day ..keeps em supple and yes less prone to muscle injurys ,if they are reasonably fit;; Quote Link to post

morton 5,369
dogs need to be exercised in the summer aswell as winter dont see many wolfs on the beach in magaluf in the summer but then again More than 2 or even 3 ways to keep a dog interested and in shape,i find it quaintly amusing that the ones who care to rest the dogs and let things recover their numbers don,t feel the need to justify and look for reasonable excuses for their actions,i understand the genuine pest control options and even entering a youngster, the rest ive little time or understanding for. Giro 2,648
Aye its wet enought here too Could count the hot sunny days on one hand so far... I have had a few strolls with the dogs but would not dream of lamping, tho its tempting to get cracking lol Quote Link to post
