earlystart 56
Does any one on here have their dog on a chain or this safety wire rope that won't knot that's fastened to a dog cabin or kennel and is it safe?
Born Hunter 17,960
I read about a dog that amputated it's own tail while on a steel wire. Personally I would favour the chain.

forest of dean redneck 12,023
Those plastic coated wires kink and will snap, decent length of chain, and fixing points both ends is best.
Carraghs Gem 1,699
I had my farm collie on this for a while, plastic covered cable from concrete stake to telegraph pole, with a runner attathed and a lead hanging down from the runner, works ok but rusts in the end, plus you have to replace the cable lead regular as it when it rustas they can chew through it
Waz 4,293
I use chain. Make sure you have swivels at both ends, and no obstacles for the dog to get hung up.

earlystart 56
Cheers lads,I saw the cable in pets at home and it said safety cable won't knot. I have a small garden and I'm in the process of making a cabin and I thought rather than having a big run I could just use a chain on the cabin. I take him to work every day and when we are working in town he is tied up so he is used to it. When we work out in the stick he's loose next to me (loyal friend). He's only 5 months. I'll take some pics and put them up. Got some time of work now had our second baby today. ATB earlystart.

squab 2,875
I use chain. Make sure you have swivels at both ends, and no obstacles for the dog to get hung up. i have the exact same thing never had any trouble what so ever, one end to swivel attached then to collar other end of chain swivel/attached to a stake in the ground which is up against the house wall so the dog cant circle it and get tied up Edited July 13, 2012 by hunter1372
