summer hunting shows a lack of restraint , and fills the void for those whose dogs catch fuk all in the winter when everything is fit for running atb

Nothing personal against ideal , but most of his reports last year where on other folks ground ,so im reading he doesnt have the ground or the numbers that some folk have ?. Its easy enough to thin out the rabbits over the winter but if they have a bumper year theres going to be a fair few running about in the summer , the farmers going to moan after all its his lively hood your playing with so if he says the rabbits etc go they go .They might be small kits but they soon grow to be big rabbits and three or four eat as much crops as a sheep . Then another thought you leave your rabbits saying there only small ,i only hunt for four months Mr farmer. Theres others that see them and poach them and there no as fussy about shutting gates etc as you so you loose your rabbits and still loose your ground. Ive left rabbits before and they have been poached myxi's flattened them so now i do as asked and have a good rebate with my landowners

I know in some parts of country the public see the wildlife as fluffy wuffly bunnies who are mummy and daddy to bady bunnies never knew it had spread to some of our own members.

Get a grip respect quarry in life and death and manage the numbers to mantain a heathly population for the quarry yourself and the landowner.

The countryside is not like this book your mum read you as lad

Good way to lose ground is tell a farmer or land owner you cant work in the summer.Just when they need you most.Best time to enter a young dog.Day or night.

Just a couple of questions, after having a funny kind of day today.

 

Who on here can honestly say that they don't summer hunt, and don't jump on the chance of doing it, and being able to use 'pest control' as the excuse (different from doing a call out when there is a genuine reason).

 

and secondly -

 

If you have access to land, and other folk hunt it as well, who love going out and filling their boots in summer, do you stick to your principles and keep to the winter, or just f**k it and do what they do, but try and get in first, killing as much as you can in summer?

 

well I have read all pages last night and tonights additions, as The One mentions you did seem to get about through others generous invites last season due to not having many rabbits local I recall you posting some very early (pre season) jaunts on land almost daily reports of what you had caught whilst out with the ferrets and dog

Crops stop most action in our mainly arable based permissions even then I have a fair wack of pasture land but then that has grazing so never really see the point in hunting outside the standard winter months view.

 

But some see hunting as a rose tinted life of catching few bunnies ever weekend for pot and giving the dogs a nice hunt and enjoy that wonderful joy of seeing that carefully trained dog working in tamdem with owner ferrets etc.

 

But others who have good numbers of pests which demand a more workman like approach or numbers would get to point of damage that is not sustainable to crop .

 

Lets not forget we have moved on from days of needing to hunt all year but our great grandfathers had to hunt to provide food for there familys and despite there hunting 365 days a year we still have a good number of pests in the UK .

 

Do I think that the actions of some is selfish when it comes to hunting YES but some members want others to abide by the country rules of no summer hunting.

But are quite willing to go for a wee mooch over the fence on somebody else land so dont get over proctective of your morales to your own views and actions on certain things when and if your not so squeeky clean .

You are a funny bloke, you've been quiet for a while, and i see today you have jumped on me in two threads, and tried to have a dig in the status box, i'm flattered

 

Firstly you presume im talking about rabbits and moaning about folk who need to do pest control all year. Now i never mentioned the quarry im speaking of, and i clearly stated that when you have to do it, you have to do it.

 

The thing that actually made me post this, was a discussion about folk roadsiding for charlie (dogs and guns) in summer, on your permission, do you just hope that there is something left when winter comes, or do you get in there first and kill them even earlier?

 

In fact, i wasn't even speaking of anything personal to me, but asking in general, who does what and how they feel about it all? Something that is always noticable is how many say they have to do it etc or will lose permo, upset farmers etc, yet they are poaching, so thats nt really the truth.

 

We all know you think all poachers are scum, and would probably report them to the police, that is your own view and you are entitled to it. But give over trying to have a dig everytime you see a post of mine, it's getting boring and a bit weird.

 

Anyway, i hope summer is treating you well

Now don't get offended, but some of you are making yourselves look like idiots.

 

Firstly, i NEVER hit out at anyone for taking quarry in summer, where the levels needed it, and if you read through the thread you would see i mentioned that several times, i get called out in summer and i go and do what needs to be done.

 

Now if you want to have a dig at me - Cookie and leeview then go ahead. I have 1000's of acres of permission here, including over 1000 acres that i keeper. I started putting up threads about a few of my wee jaunts (bunnys only) at the strt of the season, but then stopped as it wasn't worth the hassle, i continued to post trips out, when i went out with other members, as they always asked me to do so, and yes i had some very generous invitations, and met some very sound folk.

 

I will be first to say that the area i live in is not over run with bunnys, although some other species are rife, this is due to a few things, one of the lesser reasons being that i, and before that my old man have hunted the land for years, and im out mst days, so to be fair, they dont get a real chance to establish themselves, and its not an arable area, mostly woodland and rough ground. I enjoy meeting new folk, and hunting different land, and i dont see the problem with that, mst of the folk i was invited to hunt with, either didnt have ferrets or didnt have dogs, so i was helping them keep their permission, by reducing the rabbit numbers faster than they could a lone. I was also asked out by folk who wanted me to show them the ferreting ropes, which im always happy to do.

 

I'll just say it again, unless some members have difficulty reading, im not a fecking retard and understand that in areas with a high population of whatever, they need to be controlled if doing damage, whatever time of year. Never disputed that in any way shape or form, but im glad its been pointed out over and again, across the last couple of pages.

 

I was just asking some basic questions on who does what and if there are any folk honest enough to say, they dont NEED to do it, but just dont fancy stopping over summer, its their land, its their choice, it doesnt affect me, im just interested.

 

And no cookie, i dnt think they are fluffy wuffy bunnys.

I still take my dogs out daily and they catch stuff. Is this hunting?

I don't lamp or ferret, because my feet would get ripped, stung to bits in my flip flops.
