I was watching that match in a pub with a mate who was an Arsenal fan. liverpool were getting battered and 1-0 down and I'll never forget the look on my mates face when Owen scored not once, but twice in the final 10 minutes to win it! As a United fan I was f*****g sick though!

I bet mate, Liverpool were shocking and should have been a man down after someone (Henchoz, maybe?) blocked a shot on the line with his arm!

mark a l 27
Michael Owen has said there are several factors to think about when choosing his next club, and he will give these due consideration during his holiday. If I were him I'd chat to Brian at B&Q, he was really helpful when I was picking a bench last summer.
gnasher16 31,603
Im inclined to agree with Baw to an extent....not sure id go as far as to call him a journeyman but Owen definately never lived up to his early promise.....think his injuries took a yard of pace from him which dont help, but even so i think his major downfall over the years has been his attitude......all he seems bothered about is horses !.....Seems like footie was just a source of income to fund his real interest,as soon as he became wealthy he seemed to lose interest in playing football and was happy to pick up wages sitting on a bench......dont think he ever really had the hunger or desire to be one of the worlds best players, which he certainly had the early promise to be.....shame really.
baw 4,360
Ok Gnash maybe I was trying to get a rise calling him a journeyman, but the term definitely still applies to Fowler.
stewie 3,387
Fowler , one of the shrewdest pro's of his Generation. Invested heavely in Property around the North West. Worth Fortunes. Great for a while as was Lee Sharp and Stan Collymore . They just didnt have the will to go the distance. bollocks!!!! fowler lost his heart after he was FORCED out of liverpool, if he never left who knows what we would of won the mans probably the best english striker ever

asanley 1,009
Baw , my old mate , I know you like a wind up but don,t even mess with this one , Fowler was a genius , considered by many to be Liverpools best ever ,if you can find a Liverpool supporter who rated Owen above Fowler I will show my arse in woolies window. baw 4,360
Lol Stan me auld mucker, I take your word for it regarding the Liverpool fans, doesn't mean the guy was all that. He had potential, yes, but so do a lot of players. To be great you need to fulfill that potential which he didn't, he'd rather snort lines as goal celebrations as if that makes him look anything other than a tit. Look at stewies post, full of it's, buts and possibilities... Bit like that other hero you mentioned.....Owen.... Neither of them, were football greats, just another couple of what if's...
