HAPPY TAIL

Recommended Posts

For the last few months have had a bit of bother with Sonics tail,he slaps the shite out of it off the kennell wall.Lately though its escelated and has become a major problem.I have come home 2 days this week and the sight before me was unbelievable. It was like an abbatoir.Only last week hes had a blockage in his bowel and now hes bleeding like a stuck pig, lol.I rang the vets twice and both time they promised to ring back, the 1st time she was in surgery and the second she was just washing her hands and would be with me in 5 minutes.Ive bandaged the tail and for the last few days all is well but I will have to have a few inches of the tail removed I reckon.Anyone ever have any experience of this ''HAPPY TAIL'' as its known as,Im not happy I can tell ye,lol.A few photos for you to see.

i had the same problem when i raced a few greyhounds ,normally we call these dogs WAGGERS ,they keep hitting their tails against the side of the kennel and the end splits, if its not stopped quickly it can turn into a real problem and it normally ends with a dog having part of its tail amputated .you could try taping some copper pipe insulation around the end of the tail (the sort of stuff they sell at B,N,Q to stop cold pipes bursting).or some card board tubing ,ive also put roofing lats around the kennel walls and nailed carpet to it so the tail isnt hitting breeze block .the only other thing is put your dog in a lot bigger run so theres a loy less chance of his tail hitting the side walls ,,,hope this helps ......jim

thanks jimster,as you may of read I built new kennells and the lurchers kennells are almost 6 foot wide by 7 foot deep,I think if it were 10 foot wide hed still bang the friggin thing.Im going to get it amputated I think as its not a bother to the dog work wise when its gone.My mates a greyhound trainer and has done it to his coursing dogs and no adverse effects to the dogs were seen.

I remember coming home from work to blood up the Walls, checked dogs over and couldn't for the life of me think think where it was coming from, wasn't till the night time when I found the dry blood at the tip of the tail. Carpets on the kennel wall sounds like an idea mate.

Happens to my big dog in the shooting season. He bursts it working cover and it never really heals all season.....certainly doesn't bleed as much as your dog though mate. Carpet up the walls sounds a cracking idea.......

jaysus if the wife thinks Im carpeting the dog kennells after building the new ones im outa the house, lol.I was just testing the waters to see how others may have coped with it.I am roofing them in a few weeks and maybe when thats done I will consider the carpet idea, that is if he still needs it.

well amputation sounds better.the vet is up for taking 6 inches off,so I think I might.A consultation with him is in order before I decide.
