Sjt657 191
Just been to one of my permission that I have shot many times but have not been there for a couple of months was hoping the area would be overrun !!!! But nothing ? And I mean nothing it was like some one had been threw with a machine gun I saw nothing ??? I saw one or two woodies nothing else ?? all the small birds where still about no rabbits and only a couple of woddies ?? I would have expected a lot more. Think some one has helped them selfs in my absence . So much for letting the numbers recover ! Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Go back later with a lamp, probably a totally different story! When I first started in the cemetery and paddock, they were everywhere during the day. After months of work they only came out at night. Only the occasional kit dares venture out during the day now. StevoSmith 147
Could be Mixy or VHD mate....i been lucky on mine not had any of either for about 3 years....VHD kills very quickly in about 48 hours and kills every rabbit in warren and surrounding warrens If it was mixy i would still expect to still see rabbits as some now have immunity to it 1 Quote Link to post

Sjt657 191
Thought about that it's the fact the woddies are gone too used to come home with at least half a dozen ? Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,928
They might just be flying to a different feeding field and roosting closer to it, try asking other farmers for permission as well and offer them a reference off your normal shooting places owner 2 Quote Link to post

The woodies will be pairing up for breeding mate....all my woodie roost's have emptied cept for a few.....it is breeding season after all Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Yes the birds are bonking away, making plenty of targets for later in the year! The bunnies could just be keeping out of the way of something or someone. Dusk and dawn are quite good times for them, the ones on my permission also tend to like a feed at about 2pm! stealthy1 3,964
Try first light, or a late evening for the rabbits Quote Link to post

Sjt657 191
Thanks guys going to have a look about later tonite and maybe early tomorrow as well just to make sure .. Quote Link to post
StevoSmith 147
If you dont see anything tonite mate it will be VHD it will kill everything.......just hope its not for your pot's stake lol....also the virus can live up to about 100 days without a host so if a rabbit moves in within that time it to will die..and then another 100 day count starts....more so this time of year when dominant bucks kick out the young buck to protect his hareem Quote Link to post
The one 8,600
Every bodies moaning about the shortage of rabbits but as said the only way to get a true idea is with a lamp at night Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I ain't moaning! Just getting to know their feeding patterns again. I had mixy the later end of last year on my permissions. They are back with reinforcements, I mean a 2lb 8 ounce rabbit (that is cooking ready weight not uncleaned weight) is not bad! Quote Link to post
