i think ur the only one thats seein a bit of sense flash 3241! nothin is ever said [bANNED TEXT] a dog cant run but when a dog comes along that is beatin everything around it it automatically becomes a lurcher if its beatin whippets or a greyhound if its beatin lurchers.. it will always be the same. this should be for fun, not competitiveness and arguing!

i didnt really want to get involved in this rubbish but the lot of you want to take a step back and think ,i spent a whole lot of my time on sunday trying pretty hard to get lurchers involved on the

YES. Otherwise Dogs run in the relevant lurcher races.

the racing was crap.

I cudnt give a shit if its a donkey running as long as my dog runs well for me on the day an as for kirsty harpers dog sox it does race an is showin at the whippet club an if they had a problem with it it wouldn't be classed as a whippet it does look on the large side but that's my opinion I no nothing about whippets I don't keep them

Just to set the record straight it is not billy harpur who owns the dog that won the whippet racing...its me.nothing whatsoever to do with him.and what's this to do with martin tucker?where did it ever come out of that he had dogs from martin tucker?if the whole show was talking about sox why didn't someone come to me and say they had an issue about him running.I would have had no problem if they had of.sox is no non ped.I had issues in the past with sox regards his height and length and went to a few people regarding that but they reassured me there was nothing wrong with him and was definately a whippet.he has won whippet pup champions several times and the racing last week.I also had a man (dave) I think looking at him and he says thers no doubt he's a whippet.I will be honest and admit that I had issues with his height and length but I was assured by several people that he was a whippet.so if anyone has issues address them to me and not billy harpur.

Why is there so much crying about whippet racing at terrier and lurcher shows? Surely people with whippets can race them fairly at the Sporting Whippet Club, which is exclusively for whippets or else they should just race in the appropriate height categories at terrier and lurcher shows.

Anyway. I never made it to the show at the weekend - looks like they were lucky with the weather!

Kirsty,

Well done for coming forward on this. As you know I made many of the points you make about Sox directly to you. Might help if you confirm his breeding and who bred him.

We were very lucky with the weather - with the worst swerving round us. But we had heavy weather on Friday and worked hard, as we always do to keep the ground good. My motto is to plan for bad weather & hope for good!

winner 69, u say Billy got 2 whippets from martin tucker and got rid of one? i personally know the breeding of his whippet and it is not one purchased from martin tucker, if ur that sure ask tucker urself. just because the whippet won the racing everyone is claiming hes a cheat? and who is "talking about this dog being a greyhound cross whippet and no-one had the courage to comfort him"? as far as i know the only people getting their knickers in a twist over this whole thing are the ones that are being beat. there was nothin said when the whippet wasnt winning races!

Martin tucker? he is probalbe on here as born-to-tell-lies he is filling the country with badly made bred minuter greyhounds.from what i hear just ask john humpries, any one that refuses a dna test to there dog after there cover is blown shouldnt be allowed to race,i hav heard it all these is only my 2nd year going to the shows,iv kept lurcher and terriers all for the last 18 years the kids are mad looking a whippet for the racing but what the point when people like that billy harper are deleberatly cheating.the people that are getting there nickers in a twist are the people that no the truth about ur dog kristy.stop cheating or do a dna test

thank you Kirsty putting for putting the record straight ! people should be careful what they say regarding whose breeding what and flooding the country with mini-greyhounds !!!

i`ve never even bred a litter of whippets/lurchers or whatever ! I don`t waste my time or efforts with these micky mouse events !

I will be at Shanes Castle with Winnie (Martin Kennys, Murt x Marwood Type) and Ginger Jack (Ningbo Jack x John Carrolls, Ginger), everyone knows them, seen them run, saw and know the parents and have no problem with them !

Winnie will be bred to Ernie at the end of the year and that was the reason i bought her, after i saw her win a stake in Enniscorthy last October ! She cost a right few €`s !!!

I never made a secret about Ernies breeding (R.Ch Vivs Quest x Sup R.Ch Show Three) it was always other people that had a problem !

Regarding DNA for China. I know it was taken by a vet and sent to Weatherbys in the UK for registering. Her father was already registered. However, the people who claimed to have her dam in the UK, refused to get her DNA taken, so that was the end of that !

This is my last post regarding anything discussed on here, so don`t expect any comments regarding the above !! Think and say what you like !

Running non-ped whippets and greyhounds at these events is just a joke, what are you achieving??? why not run the dogs at the non-ped meetings or flapping tracks?? i tell you all why, the dogs wouldn't stand a chance. If i ever ran a racing event i would ask to see the pedigree of all the whippets that entered the ped whippet racing, no pedigree then they don't run. You'll always get folk wanting or trying to cheat. But at the end of the day there only cheating themselves.

I've seen dogs running at maltby non ped racing club on a saturday and then running in the lurcher racing at a gamefair on a sunday!!!. It's about time it was sorted out, afterall 90% of the racing at gamefairs is advertised as lurcher racing not non ped whippet/greyhound racing.

It's the folk who turn up with the true lurchers i feel sorry for...

Mally,

We have tried to sort this problem out - at fairly great expense I may add - by introducing novice lurcher events to let ordinary guys run without having to meet 'elite' racing dogs. We have also tried KC registered and non ped split - that got criticism because people couldn't afford or be bothered to register their dogs. This time round we had 'Pure Bred' whippets and non ped /Under 21 classes. Still disputes. I really do wonder why I bother.

I was asked personally to look at three whippets to rule on whether they were 'pure bred'. It was easy on two - the other I thought marginal on size and shape and made that known to the owner.BUT it could have been just a poor quality show specimen. AND it has been accepted to be shown and raced at the Sporting Whippet Club who are more expert than me and have specialist KC whippet judges. I specialises in judging gundog breeds but have judged whippets in variety classes and for BIS against other breeds. Allegations about who it was bred by have been totally rebutted by the supposed breeder - the owner might add some clarity by saying who it was bought from and who actually did breed it.

Unless someone comes forward with ACTUAL information this is my last post on this matter. We had a successful Game Fair which continued on its upward curve since I rescued it three years ago when BASC cancelled their event here. THINK BACK LADS & LADIES TO THE DIFFERENT TREATMENT YOU HAVE HAD AT THIS FAIR SINCE WE TOOK IT OVER.

If anyone has a problem with this particular whippet please take it up with the Sporting Whippet Club - don't use this minor problem to attack our much larger Game Fair events. THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT GAME FAIRS of which terrier, whippets and lurchers are just a very small part. AND quite frankly if this sort of nonsense contunues I will stop putting any more investment into these events. I DON'T NEED TO PAY GOOD MONEY TO BE INSULTED.

We move forward to our event at SHANES CASTLE which is my 50th fair run over 34 years since I brought the Game Fair concept to Ireland. This is an important event for me and it coincides with the 25th Anniversay of the All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships . With this championship and the Master Mc Grath race and the new Novice Championships, plus the central location we have given them WITHIN the fair, we have demonstrated a massive commitment to Terrier , whippets and lurchers since some people challenged me to bring them up to the level of other events. We get a lot of emails, calls and PMs of support but many people who appreciate what we have done are afraid to come out and face down a few internet 'trolls' who seem to want to bitch about everything and make sweeping criticisms of our whole event because they didn't win a prize. Now is the time for sensible people to come forward publicly. I would make a distinction between these ' trolls' and those who make constructive criticism. As many of you know I have had robust debates on certain issues but we have always tried to address sensible constructive complaints - these are welcome.

Because of the constant criticism on this forum my colleagues have suggested that we 'pull the plug' on terrier , lurcher and whippet events and put the money into a major international pedigree dog show and gundog event . AND to be frank I am beginning to think our money might be better spent in this area.

It really is up to the genuine terrier, whippet and lurcher folk to come forward to either support what we have done this year or lose it.

The Burren Charity Working Dog Show and Raceday Saturday 26th July 25   From the Pen of Margaret Mc Stay   As the clock on the wall jingled out its usual dulcet tones on Saturday morning, it signalled the start of a new day for us and another great sporting event on our country sports calendar. With Mrs Sat Nav being our guiding light along the way, and the beautiful Mourne Mountains following us enroute, very soon The Burren came into view and the dog show venue for the day. And what a venue that was. It was evident the amount of hard work the Burren Team had put into this show ground. It was in tiptop condition with six toilets on site, rings well spaced out and a superb racetrack with a very steep hill. And what a tester for our dogs this track was. With the sun shining down all day in abundance and a very large gathering of canine folk from North and South of the border, the atmosphere was electric. I can honestly say this was the biggest show I have been at this year and all for a great charity. As the day progressed I took a stroll around the many stands dotted around the field. I stopped of at Mick Mc Cormacks stand. Mick and Lorna are always so welcoming and have a stand full of everything for the hunting fraternity. Next door was flight & bite Outdoor Clothing & Footwear. I had a great we chat with owner Richard Caddell. Richard and I go back a very long time from our times at The Great Games Fairs of Ireland at Shanes Castle. I think most of our outdoor gear for dog shows were bought of this man over the years. You would not go hungry at this show. Burgers/Drinks/ Snacks/Teas and coffee were all available on site. The children had a field day with a child handling class. Every child got a medal and a bag full of goodies. With their barking and crooning canine friends by their sides, these little people were in their happy place and full of winning spirit As the day progressed into evening, it was raffle time and then the excitement began. It is unbelievable the buzz of excitement the raffle generates to the people around the ring. There were some great items in the raffle, and some very happy campers going home with great prizes The Racing started at approximately 12 noon followed by Showing. Here are the Racing and Showing Results: ***Racing Results*** Pups Kieran with Jimmy Kirsty with Sika Whippet James Mullen with Junior James Mullen with Toby Under 21s Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Bill Rose Mc Coy with Arlo Under 22s Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Venus Rose Mc Coy with Texas Under 23 elite Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Lady Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Cody Under 23s traditional lurcher Mj with Lila Under 24 smooth Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Jack Rose Mc Coy with Prada Under 24 hairy Harry Roche with Sula Joyce Scott with Susan Master McGrath Jake with Storm Joyce Scott with Guss Mick the Miller Jed Donagh with Chaz Lynzi Gardiner Magill with Sugar Light bull Yapper Hayes with Lady Leigh Thompson with Roxy Heavy bull Joyce Scott with Mable Leigh Thompson with King Terrier Matthew Wisdom with Rocco Elaine with Ruby Greyhounds Barry Holland with Hunter ***Showing Results*** Overall Champion Pup Clodagh Gentle with Dash Overall Champion Whippet James Mullen with Toby Overall Champion Lurcher Shane Burns with Buster Overall Champion Terrier Marty Mc Donald with Rebel Overall Champion Strong Dog Chris Mc Court with Sandy Overall Champion Hound Iveaghs Grapevine Overall Champion and Best in Show Marty Mc Donald with Rebel Overall Champion Reserve Chris Mc Court with Sandy Congratulations to all above winners and well done. And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges on the day, for doing a wonderful job.The Judging was delivered with accuracy and integrity, and a job was well done by all. A special word of thanks to these legends in the Doggie world yes The Mc Grath Dog Racing Club Carlow. Again this year Biddy, you and the boys, and you as a team excelled yourselves in everything you done on the day for the Burren Working Dog Charity Show and Club and many thanks for that. You have been so helpful to so many clubs North and South of the border over the years and long may it last. Finally, Finally this top show would not of been possible without this now well experienced and brilliant show organiser. Yes, I would like to thank the coordinator of this spectacular charity event Stephen Mc Nally and his family, Dad Louis, mother Margaret, brothers Martin and Noel, sister Theresa, Philip Mackin, and a most willing, helpful and friendly back up team and helpers for another top charity show and race day. A light went out in the Mc Nally household, when Stephen and his family lost a son and a beloved brother to cancer. This is total heart break for any family, but Stephens reason and inspiration behind the Burren Charity Working Dog Shows is to keep the memory of his brother alive through giving back to the charities, through his dog shows to the people who helped the family in their hour of need. This years chosen charity “Daisy Lodge Cancer Fund For Children “ is a charity that makes a real difference in the lives of families affected by cancer. Their mission is to empower and connect families, giving them the support they need to cope with the emotional and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis. They also stand beside bereaved families, offering care and guidance to those grieving the loss of a child or parent. This is where your gate, racing, ring and raffle contribution to The Burren Charity Working Dog Show will go to, and what a very worthy cause. For that we truly thank you for your contribution. Thanks to Stephen and the Burren Team for a most enjoyable day, for the kindness you have shown to John and myself on the day. A brilliant venue and a brilliant day full of lovely memories, and I am already looking forward to more of the same god willing in 2026. To we meet again God Bless. Margaret Mc Stay

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30

      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
