RubyTex 1,957
By a stroke of luck i've been given a big double allotment which is a 10 minute walk from my house and allows livestock. Couldn't get any better than that, it has a large green house at the back with a shed attached to hold chickens, it needs a good dig over although it's not as bad as some, with a few rhubarb and strawberry plants coming through so i'll rescue them. A bit of the side fence needs redoing but all in all, very pleased. I'll upload some pictures tomorrow, going down to start the digging process (thank fook the guy next door has a rotavator), fix the fence and start on my chicken run. I've got raised beds and a greenhouse at home but in the interests of keeping the council happy i'll be putting two large beds down and first year filling them with potatoes. Updates to follow with tomorrows work and pictures

RubyTex 1,957
FFS. The mother of the guy who was the holder before me, received a letter dated March 2012 from the council about bringing the plot into shape. Now i've been busting my bollocks off for the last three months and have brought the plot back to a decent standard. Not quite it's glory days but dug over, chickens in and sheds repaired. She's decided now, after the fella asked everyone in his immediate family if it would be okay to put me on the paperwork and she agreed at the time, she wants a piece of the action and wants half the plot. I'm fcuking fuming. Because i'm the 2nd person, i don't really have say in it apparently. What a complete twat, she hasn't done feck all or even been to the plot in years and now i'm on it actually bringing it back round she wants in!! Ignorant fcuker!! I only found out through the allotment holder nextdoor who got me the plot in the first place. He was as pissed off as i am at her doing this and told me if she wants it just chuck all the shite over and let her deal with it, afterall it is hers. The plot 'works' as it is, chickens at one end and veg at the other. Now i'll have to move everything 3 months graft for nothing, half tempted to change the old wench for cutting the grass on 'her' side.
chartpolski 28,475
Did you not sign an agreement and pay rent for your plot ?? I'm on the comittee of our allotments and something like this wouldn't be allowed to happen. If the land is owned by the council, you should pay rent and 3rd party insurance to them thru' the comittee. Cheers.

Yes Chartpolski, i've signed and put my name down as the 2nd named person and paid 75% of the rent with the greyhound owner 25%. By 'something like this' do you mean the situation or because i have been put down as a person allowed to tend the plot?

By 'something like this' do you mean the situation or because i have been put down as a person allowed to tend the plot? I mean the situation, mate. We wouldn't allow people to share a plot, or sub-let, as it leads to this type of situation. Also, with councils insisting on 3rd party insurance, it has to be in the plot holders name, and could lead to all sorts of problems if some one sharing a plot got hurt. You should go to one of your comittee meetings and get it sorted. Cheers.
RubyTex 1,957
Thanks mate. I'll get myself to the next meeting to get some further advice. Down here the council allow the plot holder and one other named on the paperwork. I'm the 'other'. I've just had a phone call from the chap, he took his mother down to see what i'd done and she loved it. So much so i can keep it how it is i'll still get more advice though just incase.

Cant wait to get some veg in the ground Bought cabbage, carrot, leek, brocoli and onion seeds so far. To late for spuds apparently so thats for next year. Still need to sort out some netting too so i keep the pigeons at bay.
Moe 108
alright ruby tex,as the second named person / partner, you have no rights at all.the only thing you can do is waite 3 years and hope in this time the tenant changes there mind and lets you run the whole plot.then you can apply to the council to sign the plot over to you, this is not automatic but you will be in good stead ifyou have been working the plot and keeping it tidy.in hartlepool you will be inspected on a yearly basis.hope this helps.
