Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
VETS AGREE TO IT SO CANT BE THAT BAD I GUESS I bet if it went wrong they would say I didnt say that as far as I am aware is still not licenced to use on dogs so a vet might say off the record use it and many hunts do but if it went tits up they would say I didnt say that. Ivomec had the knickname collie killer in the 80s90s when I sold POM and took the relavant AMTRA course to be quailfied to sel and advise wormers etc. I am a little out of touch as it nearly 10 years since I was active in that field so may have become common to use but I fear its not a wise move if you have any doubt on your dogs breeding as the herding breeds have a gene that is affected by ivmectin . I am guessing that the main reason you want to use ivomec is cost you must have a fair few dogs to worm and using the correct licenced wormer is mega bucks. What I find very very strange is asking us lot when you have clearly been to the vet if he has recommend it why has he/she not given you the dosing levels because it not licenced for dogs so he/she Be careful all I say is would you be willing for GP to pump you full of drugs unlicenced for humans in the hope to say a few quid. If not why do it to you dog/dogs ATB Cookie
neil cooney 10,416
Ivomec can kill dogs with collie in them. It can also be severe on a dogs kidneys so I wouldn't use it on old or young dogs. It used to be used as a last resort when nothing else had worked. Kill or be killed you could say. There are several good wormers and pour ons nowadays without having to resort to drastic measures like Ivomec, IMO.
dillydog 8,517
Well my terriers must have collie in them then. I used (stupidly) a ivomec based horse wormer, after seeing others use the same on a smaller terrier. Within 1 hour my terrier was as blind as a bat. It had a happy ending this time, after 4 days the dogs eye sight came back, but in all honesty i fcking shit myself. I've alo known a lad who kept Border terriers lose two in one day to ivomec. I spoke to my vet during and after my little fck up, he said Ivomec has no known antidote, it's a neurological drug and once it's in their system it's in there to stay for the duration. www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1677+1684&aid=2245 Edited March 9, 2012 by dillydog
