TOMO 29,292
had another look up there yesterday,, another late start with me not finishing work till 8am ,, so we didnt get going till 11.30,, but even 5 hours ferreting is better than not.. had ginny spinner, frankel , and there uncle with me yesterday, and Don and Venus, were the dogs on duty, Well the ferreting gods were on our side yesterday , with most rabbits bolting ,, and seemingly the magic number was 5,, so many sets produced 5,, it was uncany,, even when it was only 3 out of tiny 2 holer, 2 foot apart ,more like a run through,, all the digs were shallow afairs,, i think only 3 digs of about 1 foot,,,, one dig produced 3,, what was unusual about that was 2 rabbits were one way in the tube in a stop end,, , but the 3rd was the other way just sat tight in the midle of the tube, another strange one ,,, was me putting the ferret in an entrace, but the ferret backed out,, i looked in to see a rabbit facing me, so i pulled it out,,, and behind it was another, but as i dived in again it kicked on, so the ferret went in ,, but he seemed odd, chartling and chattering,,, i think there was a stoat in there,, we did bolt that second one, after a few mins,,, but no stoat , wich they normaly do,,, so im fecked if i know what was realy happening down there. one great run from don saw him running down this very steep scree covered in branches and boulders. to turn the rabbit at the bottom and head back up and catch the rabbit half way up, all in all a cracking day and beautifull and sunny,, heres that bank don ran down and back up 2 Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
Well done lads, a good few hours graft for you and the dogs, as skycat said a good strong built dog is the order of the day on them banks. Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,729
VERY sure footed dogs needed there! I can vouch for that Skycat as i've lamped the same farm several times with Tomo..it is REALLY scary stuff watching the dog run at times up there! Good stuff Tomo & Co,looks like you chose the best day of the weather for doing abit of ferreting up there as today it's bouncing down with rain up North or atleast here it is? My lads were saying there is still an abundance of bunnies up there on them screes? If you are heading back with the ferts Tomo make sure you leave one or two for us paupers who like a jaunt with the dazzler for next season lol..pleased to say i WASN'T the pit pony on this occasion so now my lads will know how i feel carrying a stack of bunnies up on them steep banks haha..ATB Andy. TOMO 29,292
VERY sure footed dogs needed there! yeh , Venus was having none of that scree,,, and to be honest who could blame her,, i think she's fully awear of her limitations, what was intresting was her watching that rabbit come back up, and her just standing in line waiting to intersept it,,, of course it never got there.. johnny boy68 11,726
Does the dogs running style change much on the terrain when running in the day compared to on the lamp, do the dogs run a little cleverer due to them seeing the terrain? Quote Link to post
