Moll. 1,793
I love the shrimp, have several kinds in my community tank, they breed very well. Also have 2 african frogs, ive had for years, hand feed them small earth worms I prefer the loaches etc to fish, got humbug, kooli, clown, yoyo. Also 3 different kinds of plecos, flying fox, and catfish things. Also have assassin snails who do a good job keeping the tank clean of the unwanted ones.
PAUL73 0
I keep Malawi Ciclihds, but they are a fekin demolition crew, waste of time setting up the tank to look nice as they destroy and move anythin in it. I have massive rock in it, but they just bury into the sand substrate till it falls over, They are also violent, so can be noisy at night while they beat the shit out of each other, and they eat a lot. Pain in the arse really, but stunning to watch what malawis do you have used to have a fish house with about 60 tanks
Paid 935
Yeah, I love those assassin snails too, sorted out some infestions with gusto :-) I'm addicted to these shrimp, playing god and breeding them in different colour combos lol. also, cant beat keeping something in your tanks who's main food is algae :-) My current favs in my community tanks are Boraras micros, real nice tiny little fish. I have a shoal of
Rake aboot 4,936
Some old pics,, the tank is much more mature now, and the fish are around 5 times the size you see here.. minus the fatalities

gnasher16 31,498
Rake aboot......just out of interest, how do you go about cleaning your sand ?.....its a f****r to clean dont you think i ended up having to get one of those eheim vacuum 60 quid jobs......tried all that hovvering a hose just above it but was no good at that just sucked all the sand up.....pretty thick layer of it you got there as well. Rake aboot 4,936
Yup. It`s a twat to clean, but I just persevere with the syphon vaccum. Keep the top layers clean and you can get away with doing a deep clean every now and again. I was running an eheim external bucket filter, until the bucket split and syphoned half the f****n tank onto the carpet, now I`m running a powerhead fluval. Clean it more often, but much better water movement, so I`ve done away with the air pump as well cause I have better oxygen transfer with the extra current. It`s not an easy tank to keep clean though,, the rock is a cnut once it gets stained in algae, and I hate algae chemical cleaners.
Paid 935
Those cichlids do not like plants do they lol. Couldnt keep those, as part of it for me is growing healthy plants too.
gnasher16 31,498
Patience is key ......not to be impolite, but i can see from your pictures your sands lighter at the top where your obviously cleaning the top layer.....its real important to turn the sand over every few weeks otherwise you get a build up of gasses through the breakdown of organic compounds.....hydrogen sulphide if i remember right and it is a poison........im only saying as i lost some expensive Discus years ago when people first started using sand as a substrate,i was doing that just cleaning the top layer....and i paid the price for it............the other alternative of course is to have a thinner layer Nice tank anyway. Rake aboot 4,936
You would need concrete painted green mate,, A plant wouldnae last 5 minutes,, not even a plastic one.

Thats actually just the light shining down the front of the glass, it only reaches so far down, creates a dark layer, What you do find though, is a layer of algea build up on the inside of the glass below the sand layer. The deep sand isn`t too much of a hassle really. But yes you can and do get a dirty build up under the sand if left too long, the problem then is disturbing it to clean it
scothunter 12,609
Used to have a big juwel vision tank 50gallon.but it's hard work, now got the 60litre bio orb which is actually pretty cool. When I had my big tank had one of them lobsters, but the thing used to climb out and go for walkabouts lol

Ever thought about a couple of these 3d backgrounds........would look lovely in that tank, not that theres nowt wrong with your wallpaper like http://www.seapets.c...d-rock-600.html Edited February 8, 2012 by gnasher16
