DeepEarth 104
Out on the estate again yesterday, doing the open warrens that hold a few bunnies. The grass is kept really short here by the sheep, which makes the netting up very easy. Used the long nets as well, but the wind blew the bagging to one side, and made taking in the long nets a lot harder than it should have been. The wind was an abserloute pain all day. It was just my mate charlie nelly1 for the morning, and then patterdale joel joined us at lunch time, bringing with him his 4 month old beddyxwhippet. Charlie's lab did well, working the reeds really well, managing to peg 2 down that chose to sit tight. I'll let the pictures tell the story. The first warren, only 4 holes but also held 4 bunnies. A nice start to the day. One of the 4 had to be dug to... Two out of the first warren had strange markings. Another warren, and another dig. Another dig... And then Charlie fell in a bog. ;D Carrying the catch back to the car. The biggest warren on this set of fields, we would have ferreted it but it was too windy to set the long nets. End of day. All the best Joe Quote Link to post

Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Great lads I think some times hunters over look a labs as ferretting dogs mine in his peak would catch coneys in think undergrowth better than most lurchers. And yours is a cracking looking dog plus nice easy ground you think you had problems with your longnets in open grass field I was setting though a blackthorn hedge very fun. Brimmer 220
Nice one, looking at the longnet piccie, you can see how strong the wind was, nightmare. Also i can remember ruining a yellow lab years ago belonging to my boss, he had it for his shooting, but it didn't take it long to become a ferreting dog. Can be a lot less hassle than most lurchers or terriers. Nice bag, off nice ground. Quote Link to post
