bigliks 601
best hare in world best dog in world hare wins everytime fact no ifs or but simple its the hare would of thought so myself mate a good dog would get beat by a good hare anyday of the week ive seen some of the best dogs run that as been around big match dogs in the past and they would kill good hares but now and then not very often but they would come across a top notch hare and its bye bye fact Was the dog off colour? Out of shape? We will never truly know. Sometimes the dogs are made to look average, I've never owned a true bred coursing dog, but even with my 3/4 collie x greyhound pursuing the hare always got me more excited than any other quarry dogs was ok good shape they did not only run 1 but 3 or 4 the other hares got beat so dogs fine Quote Link to post

DogFox123 1,379
Something I've never thought of before, it would be fascinating if one of you coursing boys put a speedometer on one of your dogs and measure its max and average speed, also the distance the run is. Wish my dog was younger but he's too old to run now. Looking forward to doing this when I get my next dog Quote Link to post
bendrover 556
dont forget alot of the time its not the hare that beats the dog cos its better its to do with the ground 2 hard 2 sort peat land sand land hedgi land pipes holes woods some of the hares that was hard two catch was sneaky ones they use be a famous hare on a1 called al rapido every one tryed running it week in week out use always be in same filed no one could catch it yeh we had one local 20 years ago ,hedge row harry we called it ,it had half an ear .so we knew it was the same hare.we as young lads tried cutting it off at various gates ,runs and had a pop at him in summer i know i know, but we were young.anyway everyone ran him ,for about 4 years.what a hare Quote Link to post

Catcher 1 639
A good dog will beat a good hare 8/10 times Hi bud a wise hare will beat a good dog every time. Some years back my dog had many a run on the same hare.it allway sat near the fence. As soon as the dog rased it.It would slip, under the fence and run along it.Makeing the dog jump and loseing ground. If the dog made up the ground. It would do the same.Slip back under and run down the other side.Never did get it.Catcher. whin 463
had some great days on hares brought up in an area were there more hares than rabbs one i remeber black back had the runs of to a tee lost dog everytime i was going long net him but let him be , the ground determines the hare and dog pursuit and the stamp of a dog you breed had sevral over years catch winter hares and i raely ru hares until october onwards , unless pup , some areas ive hunted you would have better sport daytimeas the grounds rolling and they get out of lamp one of the saddest days was when the banned it at times , fechers Quote Link to post

I'm going to get myself one and record every run you can only really do it over a measured distance . my maths aint so good but worl it out over 500 yds which usually takes then 31seconds on the track.gives a rough ida you will only get an avarage ,thats all im sure i worked out at 480 mtrs in 30/31 sec it was over 30mph Quote Link to post

It will be very interesting to find out the results and differences due to running conditions, etc Quote Link to post

moonlighter 1,165
Granted you do get some exceptional hares, especially if the hare as been ran before,.but a good dog will kill a lot more than escapes. If it dosnt then your dog ain't good enough. I'm taking about hare dogs here and not some general lurcher x. 1 Quote Link to post
