What is it with gun clubs ??

Recommended Posts

Went for a mooch today on new ground that a farmer had asked us to come and sort out his pest problem. We took a walk about yesterday evening with no dogs to find the spots he had directed us to, just to see if they were holding and to knock on a few doors to let the locals know we'd be about in the morning by request of the farmer. early this morning The first spot we dug a

fox, heading over the hill we noticed a car slowing down on the road and then stopping and looking up at us while we were running the second place. He sat there for a few minutes so me and my mate decided to walk the 3 fields down to the road to see what the Craic was. What yous doing ? We mentioned the landowners name and explained to him we were after the foxs. He changed immediately and began to be friendly, telling us it was the ground he shoots and rears pheasants and partridge on. He added that he'd shot 165 foxs from the start off the season and that we wont have much luck. Then we told him we'd already got one etc etc and that from now on if he see's our van then he'll not have to worry as he knows who it is and it not anyone poaching. He seemed happy enough and we parted. Thing is before a few hours of our NICE conversation, we've learned that the same fella has went out off his way to tell lies and to try and get us threw off the ground, he also stated that there was a heated argument between us and that we left a dead fox lying in the middle off the field ?????????????

What's your views and has anyone else had any similar experiences ?

im in a gun club myself and the members are only too glad to have us digging and lamping .Saying that we have encountered trouble when he hunt foxes on other gun club land even though the farmer has given us permission.I guess the gun club lads are just not doin a good job of vermin control so the taliban crew have to do their dirty work lol

If you have permission to be on the land your on,even shooting,no gun club member has the right to tell you to go.Im in the local GC but there is some of the gun club ground that lads can hunt or even shoot with thefarmers permission so the gun club have to grin and bear it.In fairness though i have never heard of any gun club members having lads that are at vermin control removed of land, are they not doin the gc a favour at the end of the day. Most of the members in my local club will not bother with fox drives until the shooting is all over then they expect everyone to be out on a sunday morn with hounds and guns, thats usually mid feb or early march when vixons are heavy in cub,not my idea of sport.

He told me there's local fellas have got gun permits of late and think they can wonder anywhere and shoot ! Says the pheasants sting him £25 a bird and if he gets them on the ground he's ringing the cops. He seemed happy enough we were there and had permission, that was until we found out he made up a whole tale of lies behind our backs.

we didn't see why it would've been a problem us taking the foxes of the ground but seen where the farmer was coming from having to listen to them complaining about us we beat a bit on the farm right beside it and have missed afew foxes that headed for the holes wegot the hassel for doing
