Your best bet would be to go to college. If you haven't got any contacts that could get you in at the minute then your struggling. Go to college, work hard, show you are eager and willing to learn, dont be scared to get your hands dirty and maybe if your face fits you might just end up with a job on an Estate.......... Try getting yourself into some place where you can go beating. Do it for free till the end of this season even. Theres a young lad doing that at the shoot i go to at the minute, its all about meeting people in that circle.......atb.

to be honest pal ide give up before giving it a go :D only joking pal, like lab~tastic has said best bet would be college but if not beating and then just ask if you can help around the shoot but that ends very soon thou, do you know of any game farms near you ? i use to work on one yrs ago and that might get your feet in on a shoot, i use to be asked to go beating alot but to be honest i couldnt be arsed, i preferred to do the pest control when asked, game farms will be getting the old birds in afew month and eggs and there might be some help needed, egg collecting/feeding/ washing out and so on , and when they deliver birds you might be able to have a ride and get to meet different keepers, its a hard job to get into, hope things work out for you, atb

Trouble is Lab, most jobs that are advertised are usually taken before going to press and if not theres alot of people looking.

i applied for a position last year. i received a letter from the agent saying 84 others had also applied. unfortunately i didnt succeed but did make the final 5 so cant all be bad :boogy:

depending on this chaps age, he may have to find the funds to attend college which isnt cheap :icon_eek:

i chose to do a YTS course with rural pursuits, im not shore if its still going but was basically the headkeepers bitch but got a few quid and learnt the trade.

one of my regrets are i didnt go to college, should of listened to my parents!!! :cray:

And now the reality check I wouldn't bother looking mate the keepering job is f****d all ends up you will waste a lot of time and energy looking for something that in all honesty you have no chance of getting and will you honestly hack the job if you get it colleges are turning out lads at a silly rate and there aint no real jobs for them so with no experience, no funds for college and no contacts what chance do you really stand,

if you ask around mate for every employed keeper there are 20 lads as claim to "have done a bit of the keepering" if it where easy to get into a good job and hold it down why so many that dont' cut it?

sorry if all that sounds a bit harsh but there it is

good luck

Sod going to college at the moment offer your services to a keeper over the summer he may be able to pay you a bit but even if he can't you will get invaluble experience. Main thing is get off the laptop and get out there.

you got it bud, he needs to get into the country where the back of beyond is , get on a farm , working as labourer, learn the machines, get the rent free house, & graft...........the opportunities will come along, as you get to know the neighbours  ..Dont expect over night success , or early retirement , & flash cars !! :cray: Self satisfaction & the country life is cheep & more rewarding. :toast:

Look in the farmers weekly , farmers gardian..get the JOB....anywhere ;)
