Yes, of course accidents happen.... but why post on here, laughing about it ? and when you don't get the replies you wanted, edit all your posts then get sarcastic about it ?

Cheers.

Ive been ferreting for 43 years, used a few different Lurcher crosses, including Terriers

never lost one yet to a dog, when they are pups i just sit in a chair outside with the ferts and let the pup sniff them, with a firm no, I do this every day, i dont have them eating out of the same bowl, thats all i do, then when taken ferreting they soon appear to realize they are part of the team, my present pup, a 9 month Whippet is rock steady with ferrets.

I would get that dog of yours steady to ferts, especially if you are going to continue to go ferreting,

as its just a liability if he is killing your workers.

completly agree with what your saying as i said she never looked at it until this morning, the reason i said i never trusted her 100%is that if she went in a rabbit with the ferret up its arse i wouldnt be able to say for sure she leave it well alone, ferret been running around garden with her for few weeks now so thought i was getting somewhere, just happened to be wrong and cost me a ferret in the process

So how old is the dog? What age was when you got it? What have you done so far to teach it ferrets are off limits? All of my dogs are perfect with ferrets. I make a point of introducing them the day i get them in as pups and they are socialised with them everyday and they also come out ferreting from day one. The only problem i ever had was with an ex track greyhound. I even broke her to them eventually. This is my beddy whippet

The really unfortunate thing is you do live in the real world, this is it as good as it gets.

There are two things I simply will not tolerate, in fighting and worrying stock of any kind and I be as hard as I need to be so's as to leave no doubt in the dogs head as to my thoughts on the matter.

I would not have ended the without the dog having learnt the errors of its ways. Good ferrets are far too valuable to lost to your own dogs.

Our Bedlington Terrier killed a couple of our neighbors hens when they came around to our side of the field, the matter dealt was with the that day she now lives with hens free range in our garden and can be left unattended all day with them.

so you really think i did just say you naughty dog with a pointed finger so she got the message, ffs make me laugh, perhaps i should of wrote a story about how i thrashed her near half to death with a dead ferret, some people on here i dont know got smile

Not at all you did however say you you might likely go through a few more ferrets yet. As for trashing dogs near to death, lets not be silly about it, you do as little or as much as is needed but never more than is needed, it's simple as that.

the bitch is nearly 8 month iv had her from a pup but only introduced her to the ferret couple months ago as i never had one, went out with some lads but kepy her on the slip just a look at whats going on.

handled the ferret daily in front of her obvious interest at first but a few stern words and she was soon playing in the garden with it, she treated it like a game but could be a bit rough with paws stomping it but no bite to date even sharing her food bowl with it.

she has grabbed rabbits in the nets and showed no interest in the ferret when it exits the warren, seemed today she just decided thats it,

I've had to break two adult dogs to ferrets - both were about two when I got them and started taking them out. They both became totally reliable and the main thing was getting them all out working together. As soon as my dogs understood that the ferrets are part of the team, and more than that, that they produce rabbits for them, I never had any bother at all. I'm not a brilliant trainer or anything so if I can do it, it's def possible!
