What magnification do you use?

Recommended Posts

The other day I was zeroing my pro sport with a friend of mine, I hadn't been shooting for a while, so just wanted to make sure the zero was still intact.

I had noticed that I had always kept my magnification on 5x, I had always thought it was good enough for a 35-40 yard target, but shooting the other day either I lost it a little, but found it a little difficult to do a good 2 pence size group at 35 yards. Getting 7/10 shots into a 2 pence size target.

I'm not sure whether to increase the magnification to 6x or even more.

What magnification do you use if you where to shoot a target at 40 yards?

Just a curious question.

Thanks.

6X for general mooching about (kneeling, standing) and 10-12 X for static sniping at longer ranges. Zeroed at 37 yards in .177.

PS Having re-read the OP, I'd be using 10 X at 40 yards and expect to get a ragged one-hole group from a sitting position if I'm on form and conditions are favourable.

I think ill try a swap between 6x - 9x, see what favours me the best, and keep to it.
