whin most dogs are bred for lamping so you can get one dog to do most things you can for get hare coarseing as i dont think any one does it these days we all know greyhounds and whippets cant take to many hard knocks. i dont know the answer but im just wondering if they would be better with less running dog in them does it matter what they look like as long as they do the job

it does matter what they look like that have to have tthe attributes that make a running dog, good head, strong neck, deep chest, strieght legged, good tight feet and well ballanced to name a few.

I know what you're saying but a lot depends on the ground you're running and if it's been lamped much before. The ground I run is mostly short grazed grass - very fast going. If the dog's not fast enough the rabbits straight line it and dive straight into ground without ever turning.

This is my mongrel, 1/2 collie, 1/4 bull, 1/4 grey, not your typical looking lurcher I think you,ll agree, couldn,t catch a hare running backwards but when it comes to the humble bunny she takes more than her fair share, follows them into cover/hedges, runs clever and as tough as old boots, a joy to work

plus you've got the bonus of her not looking much like a running dog.

i bet you could take her anywhere and not look too obvious ;)

One of the best dogs i ever saw didnt resemble what everyones idea of a lurcher should look like, it was collie blooded no doubt about that, but in shape it didnt look as if it had a great turn of speed. Then again it didnt draw the attention of every keeper just the sort of dog the old school poachers needed, believe me that dog was a first class pot filler, intelligent did not trust strangers but as previously stated handsome is as handsome does.
