I get your drift Lab, but road runners will always be taken by dogs on walks or general mooching in the country. If your purposely hunting dogs near shoots then..... exactly what I'm getting at!!!I hope dan reads this and revokes your invite stewie.... Lol Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
ive got one proficient bird catcher under control, rest donrt get the chance we get pheasants every week onmy permision mostly wild and some fly over from the chicken feeders estate as they let thousands go for sport if thats what you call it ,you cant beat a clean killed bird with a good dog to peg it ,caut ducks , partrigde ,woodcock, but pheasants are the most stupid for cachting ,in the great strike of 85 we took a lot of birds with airsporter and dog a great combination, Erm whin, im disapointed, you didnt type the word phezzies...................................miners strike...............thatcher............new mexico...........kizzy............big stubbles etc etc Quote Link to post

chartpolski 25,942
My deer X bitch has had crow, pigeon and pheasant. She just seems a natural for them. And Lab... before you have a go at me ! LOL ! My other lurcher bitch is welcome on my local shoot, as she beats, retrieves runners and picks up ! But walking about local, where the birds are wild, I don't mind my dogs picking up my dinner for me ! Cheers. tell you what then mate go tell the keeper you've been catching pheasants all around the shoot... Not on it but just around it... See how welcome you are then..... Lol Lab, you've either misunderstood me or misread me ! My nearest shoot is 20 mile away !! My dogs peg the odd one around the doors, no where near a shoot. They, and I, are well behaved on the shoots, that's why we are welcome !! Cheers. To be fair mate it's a subject that really bothers me. And on here I realise your not an idiot with a dog( like some here) and I'm sure your a respectful kind of guy. Also I've stated many times about not shooting hares as I wouldn't do it and I think it would be nice for them to be left for you guys..... All I'd expect is the similar 'in' return. Anyway I won't harp on I'll let the big shots tell the story of killing loads for the fun of it !!! You say "leave the hares for you guys"; Well, I'd far rather course a daytime hare, than any other field sport... BUT, I was invited, a couple of years ago to shoot goose on the 1st of sept. I enjoyed it so much and got on so well with my host, he invited me to pheasant and partridge shoots, again I enjoyed it very much, He then invited me to the end of season hare shoot. I had serious reservations about this, as I think hares should be coursed, not shot; but I thought it would be churlish of me to turn the invite down, as I had accepted his other invites. I went along and shot 4 of the 44 hares shot that day, and talking to the land owner and keeper, came away with a slightly different point of view ! I STILL think hares should be coursed, not shot, but I can see ALL field sportsmens points of view ! And as long as we keep arguing with each other, the BAN will NEVER be repealed !! Cheers. 4 Quote Link to post

Lol lol why tho??? am i wrong mate??? if pheasants had any brains would they be any use on a shoot?? ive told you before i did a year studying keeping at collage after beating and helping out on a shoot since i was 7!! im not saying its not hard work mate far from it BUT when you compare a reared pheasant to a wild grouse, they really are as thick as a gers fan 1 Quote Link to post

whin 463
to true pheasants are one up from a wild chicken, but if you get true wild birds there not that stupid just that many bred for commmercail sports , were grouse like a hare pure wild ,mind you ive saw them forty feet up wind howling and they will not keep there self still as they no there getting scoped , we used to use open sights ,cant beat a good nite at the phezis good food and crack ,and well a clean kill beats the shotgun pellets, old billle glass an old poaching feind says i would pay for a nite at the birds , was in there blood dragnets roosters etc i think the earl of weymess would a had other words to say the trick with any gam e never deplete each area just take enough , 1 Quote Link to post

whin 463
on big nites i think a dog can be detrimental as birds are some times more uneasy and well other things abound ,a dog has tobe steady to be good at the game ,local pheasants were five pound a brace in the eighties Quote Link to post
robert michem 314
i found grouse quite easy, snipe can be nuisance on moor nails moor grouse than owt,, to bizzzy marking feather, and not looking for blue hare,, Quote Link to post
