blan89 159
Too many advantages to us splitting up for us to ignore imo. more so for the English. what advantages? i also class myself as british.have a lot of respect for all the nations of the uk,and we been through some shit together and came out on top.yes there are idiots on both sides who hate the scottish/english and would like to see the union disolved.however i tend to ignore them cause its pretty obvious thier only claim to this has more to do with them being anti one or the other. And casually disregard the benefits of keeping a strong a union. you get a smaller government with less intrusion into your life. we stop paying your bills and have a less progressive liberal government. All the better if we get out of europe first.
mossyh07 64
If a man hasn't pride is his countries culture and history he has nothing in my opinion. It's a pity that some countries have been forced into a position where there culture cannot be appreciated to the fullest because of economic reasons and so on. I am extremely proud of the country I was born as raised in, and I'm even more proud of it's history. I'll never stop being an Irish nationalist and republican because i have a deep love for my country and the many people who have given their lives so we can live as we live today. On the re-occuring subject of the "union" i know that i will never respect it in my country and i hope and pray that i will see the 6 counties re-united where they belong, in my life-time. And I honestly do belief it will be achieved. Tiocfaidh Ar La.

I don't want a progressive liberal state, that's one of the reasons we need to seperate. if we separate we all win.
Blooded 62
I honestly believe wholeheartedly in English independence; but would never resort to petty name-calling, that is not nationalism it is nonsense. I don't believe England should be any more united with Scotland or Wales than with Germany or the Netherlands; and that is not borne of xenophobia: some of the happiest times of my life have been spent in the latter two nations. Nationalism is a wonderful thing, but all to often gets mixed up with petty dislikes, stereotypes, and jingoism. Mossyh07, I also hope the six counties are reunited where they belong, as they should never have been annexed in the first place. JMHO
staffs riffraff 1,068
Sorry to go off the original topic but just seen on newsnight that our population will grow by 10 million to 70 mn and more or less half will come from immigration that's not all it gets worse immigrant families/people will have twice as much birth rate as indigenous population already in Leicester over 40% of births are off foreign parents, absolutely shocking some of these people may come to work but actually contribute very little and with everything being cut Leicester has got to considerably invest in huge numbers of beds staff translators just for these. This can't be allowed to carry on surely as gas been said we should be investing as much ad possible in our young and children's education/training. And to the original question I think that's what makes our country/s great how when it comes to the crunch we stand shoulder to shoulder but totally agree it should be a complete level playing field across the whole uk ie uni fees, prescription etc
