A run in the rain. . .

Recommended Posts

I did stick this up in the running dog section, but to be fair, unless you can argue about it, no one gives a shit there, so i thought i'd bung it up here as well.

Anyway, decided to take the dog for a bit of stock training after work, down to a local field with only three sheep in it, that are a bit flighty. The dog did well, and while were were there the heavens opened and it started hammering down, like a bloody monsoon!

I'd taken the hob in my pocket as i thought i might bolt a few on the way home, but those plans were well and truly washed away.

However on the way back, finn, scented something in a strip of cover, mainly dying ferns, and plunged in one end, out of the other came bunny, making his desperate bid for the far hedge.

He never made it . . . .

Funny you should say that, I was thinking earlier that i seem to be spending alot more time in this section since Malt sortede it out. Its suddenly become the best bit of the forum, it'd be nice if someone took the running dogs section in hand the same way.

Well done Finn by the way

You are 100% right mate, since Malt made the couple of changes he did and has been monitering the place, it has definatly become the best section on the forum. Also i think, that there are a really good group of lads on here that have 're-claimed' their section and made the effort to post their days out and this has had a knock on effect! It's great

The running dog section is a bit shit really.

Aye, i was pleased with the wee fella, although the ass hold, made me chuckle!

I was fairly shocked, no one even mentioned it  Got down to page three pretty quick though, as there wasn't much to argue about, and it was about (shock horror), actual hunting, rather than, 'd'ya fink ma grannies staffiexalsatioooon cud smmash da faxes, pre-bun'.

I hope his accidents have calmed him down mate, but i think it's just a matter of time, he is a dog with a big heart and would rather go through or over stuff than around it! Need to get him fitter now though, running fit, rather than ferreting fit.

I was pretty gutted that we spazzed on the charlie, would have been a nice addition for the wee man

Looks like snow, with the flash bouncing off those raindrops!

Go to agree, there are some cracking reports and pics coming in from everybody, and apart from good humoured 'crack' I'm reading this one more than the rifle section now, which seems to have gone a bit quiet. I don't even have a dog anymore, unfortunatley, but I love the write ups from those that have.

I just wish I could get out as many times as some of you with the ferrets, but with two young lads they love their shooting anything that moves (within reason off course)so we spend a lot of times doing that. Took them out this afternoon for an hour or so, with the crow decoys and the eldest whose 10, whacked three crows with his 20b, and one of them was an absolute cracker, must have been 40m and crossing in the wind!

Your kids are a credit to you mate

Must be a real pleasure being out on the land with them :)

Cheers Skycat, he's all chest and legs, he's a fair size for a whippet

KR - He can mooch all day, and can give a few good runs, but he isn't really 'sprint fit' if that makes sense. As i use him for mainly for ferreting and mooching, he doesn't do much reppetative sprinting, like you would with lamping. So i need to work on that, mainly to improve his cardio.
