BenjaminCadd 109 Posted October 1, 2011 Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 My pups 10 weeks old and coming on well, but when i start ferreting this season is it best to take her along to watch and see what its all about or Best to leave her till next season or the very end of this one when she is well trained and ready to give it a shot? morton 5,369 Posted October 1, 2011 Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 Im in the fortunate position that i can climb over my garden wall onto permission,there is a warren 100yds away that i leave just for the purpose of getting my pups used to ferrets,new scents and experiences,it aids their development no end.I would never take a pup on a serious days ferreting until it was ready,that is properly trained to basic commands,fit for the field and able to come to terms with a fleeing bunny,to me that would be at least[with my dogs]8 months old,all dogs are different and it would be up to the responsible owner to enter correctly and wait until the dog is capable,a dog entered to late will make a better dog than one entered to early. GREAT looking pup.Yes take the pup with you ,when ferreting.Keep the pup on a leash and let the puppy and ferret play together and eat from the same dish,the pup will be put in it`s place by the ferret and things will be off 2 a good start.My dog carries the ferret by the scruff of the neck,no bother. rapidjenky 97 Posted October 1, 2011 Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 i took mine when i first got him and he showed no interest and went to sleep so i left him home after that. he wouldn't even look to see what was going on and just got in the way. he turned out fine and now really enjoys a day ferreting. wont do him any harm to take him or leave him mate.
